Trying out some R2D4 albums (Stereophile).
Art Pepper - Roadgame via Qobuz Also known with this cover: Seems like a fine performance but the recording is dodgy. Much better could be had at that time ('81)!!

I was doing the same thing last week, trying out R2D4 albums. I found an original vinyl copy of this one on line, which should arrive next week. I’ll let you know how the vinyl compares, for when you finally decide to get that turntable[emoji23]

Looking forward to your impressions Tony! I found this turntable. Has very good reviews. Do you think it will finally improve my lousy digital set-up? https://www.amazon.com/Victrola-Blue...9435473&sr=8-5

Now you’re talking. A bit pricey though, maybe Ivan can get you a deal.

Karin Plato - This Could Be The One
via Qobuz One of the R2D4 records in the Stereophile list. Well... I wouldn't die for it. Doesn't go into my favourites.

Ella Fitzgerald - Jazz At The Philharmonic
via Qobuz Lousy sound, but hey, it's Ella! This LP released for the first time selections from Ella Fitzgerald sets that were performed while touring with Jazz at the Philharmonic. Pianist Raymond Tunia, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Buddy Rich give effective support during six numbers from 1953-54 (highlighted by "The Man That Got Away" and "Hernando's Hideaway"), pianist Hank Jones along with Brown and Rich accompany the singer in 1949 on such songs as "Robbins Nest," "Black Coffee" and "Basin St. Blues" (during the latter she imitates Louis Armstrong) and, for a grand finale, five horn players back Fitzgerald on "Flying Home" which also features some hot tenor by Flip Phillips. ~ Scott Yanow
