Default Anyone paring a Ref 5 with Lamm M1.2 amps?

Hi,

I'm new to this manufacturer forum, but tend to hang out over in the Wilson forum. I am looking to replace my Lamm LL2.1 Deluxe and was wondering if anyone could share experience of a REf 5 and Lamm M1.2 amp pairing.

My goals are to increase dynamics, attack, detail, and both bass & treble extension, while retaining the tone, body and dimensionality of a good tube amp.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Dave

Dave;

I had the REF5 with Lamm1.2's and Sasha's. I think it's a great match and will be excellent in the attributes you've listed. I liked it so much that I upgraded to the REF40. If you can get one with 400+ hours (600 would be nice) to demo in your home I believe you'll be hooked.

Chuck...just curios what speakers you have in your system as I see REL G1 in your signature line and that could mean the REL G1 subwoofer or it could mean REL subwoofer and Vivid's G1 Giya speaker? Thx

Thanks Chuck. What speakers are you using? Also, still have your Ref 5 for sale?

Dave/Cyril, I have Sasha's still in my system... I actually traded in my REF5 for the REF40.
I also have a REL G1 Sub in my system.

I need to update my signature to Add the Sasha's and change the EMM Labs for Meridian 808V3. When I go into my account I see my listing... Anyone know how to edit it?

Chuck...just go the "User CP" link on the top left corner of the Menu links and then go to "Edit Signature" (on the left side of the page). Hope that helps.

Hi Tima - good suggestion about contacting Marc Michelson. I sent him a note the other day and he confirmed the Ref 5 + Lamm combo, but also suggested an Allnic preamp that he is currently evaluating. I think the Allnic is closer in price to the Ref 40 though.

I have rolled the tubes in the LL2.1 and currently have Telefunkens in it which improved detail and treble extension. But as you mention they don't do much to improve what I am looking for.

Thanks.

Dave

I have not heard the Ref 5 with Lamm but I have heard it with Sashas and ARC gear...the combo was stellar. Since you are looking... I would encourage you to also home demo the Ayre KX-R. I have it mated with Ref150 and Sashas...that combo is one of the best I have heard...and this is coming from a huge tube fan.

Dave, the Ayre KX-R with Lamm M1.2's will get you exactly what you are looking for. It is a combination I ran for a while. In the long run I still prefered the Lamm LL2D for overall musicality but the KX-R did have the upper hand on things you are looking for.
