Default Audio Research REF 5

For those that read the glowing review in TAS regarding the CJ GAT Pre-amp and ART Monoblocks, JV mentions ARC is coming out with a whole new line of amps and pre-amps. We all know about the REF250 and the replacement for the 6101T, but up until yesterday I hadn't heard boo about Pre-amps.

I was told yesterday, the REF 5 will be updated, using some of the new technology from the REF 40 along with having the new front panel look (extruding round silver buttons) similar to the REF 40 and DAC8.

An upgrade path will be available for existing REF 5 owners.

No information on pricing.

Rich

I hope they do better with the updates. It really sucked when I couldn't upgrade my Ref 2, and then my Ref 3! If the 5 is upgradeable, I may get back on the train and trade in my EAR.

Would the upgrade pre be sitting below or above that of the ref40 ?

Source 2 - Avid Acutus SP reference + Thales Reference tone arm + Benz Micro LPS (DS Audio Master 1 broken tip repaired but cost me USD2k. Still having issues - channel imbalance - back to dealer. However, channel issues not withstanding, sounded very very nice. Need to get it back soonest)

Source 3 - DCS Vivaldi + Antelope reference clock or Cybershaft Op18 (not floating my boat so far)

Source 5 - ROON ROCK with Aurender W20 as NAS & 2 units of SOTM switch with 10M input (the new frontier but still cannot beat CD for now) - ROON endpoint - Vivaldi upsampler

Amplification - Naim Statement

Speakers - ProAc Carbon 8 + JL FM113 x2 (replacement purchased - Stella Utopia EVO but due to lockdown, could be a year's wait)

Purepower 2000 x 2 (&$@#% but
sounds nice)

Below. It will include a switch out to the news caps found in the Ref40, LS27 and the new REF '50 series amplifiers and an upgrade to the new cosmetics. Evolution, not revolution.

ARC has already been in the midst of a new preamp series, in response to the OP. See the REF40, LS27 & DSPre.
