If one is using stereo subs, this would require two SMS-1 units, one for each track. When I set mine up I used the SMS as a source for just the frequency sweep, used its video display to see results, but made all adjustments either at the subs or the Bryston. Then I took the SMS out of the signal path. I understand my way was not as precise, but it eliminated two A/D/A conversions.

That only works if you have the necessary adjustments available at the subs or at the Bryston. I do not think that most subs have adequate EQ (including the f113).

True, the F113 only has a single band EQ (the ARO system). I may have gotten lucky, although I tried to think it through carefully. For example, each sub is adjacent to its corresponding main speaker, raised on stands, and equidistant to the listening position in an effort to mechanically time align the various drivers. Using the SMS to monitor the effect on frequency response, I tried various relative phase settings to see if the crossover point on the curve could be made any flatter, but 0 degrees remained the best. My room is also heavily bass trapped. That said, I do agree with you that most subs, standing alone, do not have the requisite adjustments available.
