Default New K-05X Owner

Expecting to receive a new K-05X within the next week or so. Clearly, it is a bit more complicated than the Moon Neo 260D transport and 280D DAC combination that I am going to be replacing. I plan to play CDs and SACDs with the K-05X. I will not utilize it as a stand alone DAC. That is, not going to be ripping CDs and and streaming music quite yet. With that said, is there any tweaking/setup that I need to do before playing CDs and SACDs? Is it ready right out of the box? Any settings that users want to recommend? Thank you.

It's plug & play However you will want to experiment with the filter settings and find the one you prefer. I won't attempt to explain filter differences, as the manual is vague to me. Simply listen and choose !!! Congrats, truly a wonderful player.

User's manual is available on their website so you can start familiarizing yourself with it:

http://www.esoteric-highend.eu/wp-co..._K-07X_EFS.pdf

p24 is where you read about settings. I have settled on ORG and OFF. Like you, I use mine purely for spinning CDs. Note that each setting requires 300 hrs of break-in, so start with something you like and know that it will only improve with time.

I think you'll enjoy your new player very much. I recently bought the 03x and, as one of the reviews said, it may indeed be the last CD player I ever own. It's terrific in every way.

Hello,

I'm also considering this player for the same usage as yourself. Please keep us posted with your impressions.

Thanks

Default Crossing The Finish Line

Expecting the arrival of K-05X this Friday. I believe that this is the last piece to the near total upgrade to my system. Over the past year, I have replaced the speakers, amp, pre-amp, and cables. In addition, I split out my home theater system from my two channel system but all sharing the same rack. Fingers crossed, I shouldn't need to make any significant audio purchases for awhile.

The K-05X does have a built in DAC...a very good one at that. The K-05X is better than the two Moon products I am replacing. The Moon Neo 260 transport is no where near as good as the K-05X transport. Then looking at the Moon Neo 280 Dac, again the K-05x is better. I really like AKM dacs used with the Esoteric players vs Saber 9018 used in the 280. A few main stream audio companies like I think Marantz and Onkyo are switching/using AKM chips in select models. Esoteric (in my humble opinion) builds the best players. They are worth every penny.
