Congrats on your experience with Shunyata. I have been using their products over the last 5 to 6 years.
I've gone from Black Mambas to Z-Tron Cobras, Python, Anaconda and last year I added an Alpha digital, Sigma HC and Analog. Wonderful products at a reasonable price.

Using two conditioners/struggling with cable choice
I have a Hydra alpha 4 feeding my digital equipment
and a Talos feeding my analog equipment. The DAC and Server are attached to the Hydra with Cobra digital cables and the amp and preamp have Cobra analog cables. I have a C19 Cobra analog cable going from the wall to the Talos For the Hydra from the wall I have played with a Venom HC, Copperhead as well as the Viper zitron. The copperhead and Viper seem to bring more detail but also maybe a bit more glare. What would be recommended as I feel the cable from the wall should be equal to or better than from the Hydra to the equipment? I tried for a short time a cobra to the Hydra and put an Alpha HC to the Talos and that seemed a big improvement (The Alpha HC was on loan) I own the copperhead and Venom HC and have to decide whether I buy the Viper or wait and stretch to the Alpha HC. Equipment is: Aurender server MSB Analog DAC Clearaudio Ovation McIntosh C47 (preamp) Plinius SA103 Focal Diablo Utopias |

Other than your SA103, none of your gear needs an HC cord (Alpha or otherwise), but I've read on forums that the best filtering on the Alpha line is on the HC, and have seen them recommend the HC over the Alpha Analog and Digital (this doesn't apply to Sigma) so you could go all Alpha HC eventually. Here's a link to their current power cord recommendations Shunyata Research : Official Site - Power Cord Guide Charts |

Well I did it. Have the alpha hc. Down the road will get another for the Plinius and maybe one for the hydra. But the cobra etron to hydra and alpha hc to talos is just lovely. Also have the usb venom which just sounds better than the AQ diamond.
I think I'm a shunyata for life customer. |

I have Constellation Inspiration electronics (Stereo1 and Preamp1) connected to TAD-E1 speakers and Bryston BDP2-BDA2 frontend. From my previous installation I use all NBS-statement power cords (original blue ones!). I would like some advice for what electronics an upgrade to Shunyata Alpha power cords is relevant. I’m considering Alpha HC for my power amp. But what to use for my preamp, also Alpha HC? And for the Bryston’s, Alpha HC or digital? And could I still use the NBS statement for e.g. DAC without disrupting the positive effect of the Shunyata’s on the sound? Advice much appreciated!

I hope someone can offer some help regarding my previous question, But I also have another question regarding mechanical hum in my power amplifier (Constellation Audio) probably due to DC signal on my AC-powerline. I never had this problem with my Spectral power amplifier. Can this problem (partly) be solved by using a Shunyata power cable such as the Alpha HC? Or are there other measures to be taken?
Hope someone can help! Greetings, Gerard |

There are several options available for blocking DC from your AC powerline. The AVA HumDinger, Emotiva's CMX-2, and IsoTek's Syncro power cord which also blocks DC. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your advice! Do you know if there are disadvantages using e.g. CMX-2 regarding diminishing voltage or dynamics? I am somewhat concerned about this. Appreciate your help!

I contact Frank Van Alstine (AVA Humdinger) and Emotiva Audio about their products and they are all probably fine for 125V but in Europe we have 230V for which they are not suited. And on top of that I have to use an adapter to be able to connect a Schuko plug, which in my experience all have a negative effect on the sound especially for power amps.
Are there other options that are suited for 230V/Schuko? ------------------- Sources: Mark Levinson 37, Bryston BDP-2, Bryston BDA-2 Amplifiers: Constellation Inspiration Preamp1, Constellation Inspiration Stereo1 Speakers: TAD Evolution One Power: NBS Statement (2), NBS Monitor I (1), NBS Monitor III (2), 3 dedicated powerlines Analog Cables: MIT MH-770 Ultralin.II Biwire, NBS Monitor II IC XLR, Wireworld Platinum Eclipse 7 XLR Digital Cables: NBS Prof.Digital XLR, Wireworld Platinum Eclipse 7 BNC Last edited by GerardJ; 05-26-2016 at 07:11 PM. |
