Which speaker for room size?
Hi All,
For a room size of 8 m long x 5 m wide and about 2.8 m high, would 802D3 be more appropriate than a 803D3? Does it need a sub then? Can it get away with a 803D3 with a sub? I listen to it about 3 - 4 m away from the speakers and it is solid timber flooring with a rug in front of the speakers. Speakers are quite spaced out from the side walls. Thanks. |

802d3 would give you more control of the overall sound and should work fine in your room.

What is your budget?
I'd rather have a used pair of B&W 800's perhaps a d2 in your space. I've always felt the 802's probably need a good sub, but in a small space the 800's can more easily stand alone. You see examples of the 800's in even smaller spaces in a studio setting doing a fine job.

I wonder how much 800d2s will be 2nd hand. Also, the size..wifey probably will object. Is it better sounding than the 802d3s? Good suggestion though. Food for thought. |

It's all subjective. You should try and give them both a listen.
Most high end shops will have them both (and may even have demo d2s on hand). Also, most retail listening rooms I have been to are small spaces. I my opinion the 800's enter the territory of "good enough". Like they say in automotive: "there's no replacement for displacement".

Which speaker for room size?
it depends on speaker placement, you can add a sub later if you are not happy. the d3 series sounds different from the d2, i switched models, so be warned, the sound is different and if you listened to d3 series and you liked it, don't expect the same from the d2 series. |
