Default Land Rover Defender

No way, that is not a Defender. I had a 1994 US spec Defender 90 for several years and loved it. The 1994 model year was great because everything was a dealer option so you could build it how you wanted. Mine didn’t have a backseat and it didn’t need one. I added a/c for the winter defrost and I had the full hard top, a fastback top, and the bikini top. I sometimes wish I still had it but I got tired of fixing oil leaks every few months at $1,000 a pop. It was a very capable vehicle and save my life once during an ice storm. I’ll never forget that night! The vehicle in that video doesn’t remotely resemble a Defender, it’s really a Discovery.

I can relate to having strong emotional connection to cars of the past. I much prefer the styling of many cars and trucks from decades ago. 1994 was nearly 30 years ago, surely we can not expect for a company not to update and refresh the models. The car industry especially, where very few models last more than 3 years without a refresh.

The 90/110 was out there since 1983? They then became the Defender in 1990 I believe. That is a very long time ago.

I've never actually owned a Defender or any Land Rover vehicles for that matter but have always been a fan.

I will definitely stop by to take a closer look at the Defender when they get here.

The Defender was really a series IV with production beginning in 1948. The body style continued through to 2016. This new vehicle is more like the old Discovery and in my opinion Land Rover calling it a Defender is like Jeep calling the new Cherokee a Wrangler. Completely different type of vehicle.

I spent several weeks in Botswana and Zambia in the back of one of the classic defenders. Makes my heart go pitter patter just thinking about it.
