“Deep Bass” huh. Is that a PSE with 20 watts per channel?

Yes it is the PSE 20 watts per channel with 4 6550 tubes,I am now thinking about trying a Inspire single end triode model.

Default Tubes with Inspire SEP amp

I have a Inspire SEP 20 watt per channel amp and I was wondering if I could use KT-66 ,KT-88's or KT-120 tubes with it.I am now using 6550's

Anyone check out Coincident Dynamite speakers. Reasonable price and very easy to drive. Might be an interesting combo with Inspre Amps.

Yes you can and you can also mix the tubes up. Like a 6550 and KT66 etc. in each channel.

I have been using my 11 ohm Spendor LS3/5a's with my Inspire Firebottle. Lately, I have a pair of GE fatboy 6CA7's installed. The output according to Dennis' chart is 5wpc. While the combination of 5 wpc and low sensitivity (82db) speakers sounds like a mismatch, the speakers are an easy to drive load.

This combination works very well in my 8 by 10 room. Most of my listening is Jazz and acoustic music.

I may end up putting my Dennis Had Inspire Fire Bottle PSE amplifier with built in volume control up for sale. It's a great sounding amp that because of my current love affair with Dennis' 45 amp that he built for me, is just sitting in my cabinet. Its way too good to not be enjoyed by someone!

That is an interesting combination. Much like what the British were doing back in the 70s. I've driven a pair of Spica TC-60 speakers, 84.5db sensitivity, with 12-20 wpc tube amps in my bedroom system and they sounded great. Did try them with my Inspire SE EL84 amp and while the mids and highs sounded good, that amp didn't have sufficient bass power (the OPTs in that amp start rolling off at 80Hz) to produce a balanced full sound. With better OPTs it may have worked.

I have tried these speakers with my modified Magnavox 8600 and 196 single ended pentode amps running about 3.5 watts. These probably sound similar to your amp. My reaction is the same as yours, the bass was simply not there. Great for acoustic music though.

I switched to 6F6 metal tubes in the Inspire Firebottle last night. The midrange was really nice with extended highs but again, not much bass with the LS 3/5a's. Solo classical guitar was jaw-dropping good with these tubes but anything else sounded a bit anemic. Tonight I will either go back to the 6CA7's or the 6550's that came with the amp.
