no 31.5
Doing my next upgrade. Looking to get a no 31.5 transport. Anything to look out for, being these are now about 22 years old now?
I now have a no 37. Can I expect an improvement? Are these still relevant today? Thanks guys!! |

Yes they are still relevant and they still sound great. A good transport is a good transport. My friend still uses a Krell MD-10 from around the same era. It still sounds superb. He was lucky to find a laser assembly after searching for nearly 6 years though. Just something to be aware of. Parts may or may not be easily obtainable if something breaks.

Could have issues with sled drawer motor, drive motor, any rubber parts. I would pass on any old CD transport. Too many potential problems that could be costly or impossible to fix.
I haven't looked, but I think there a good new transports available. Any high end CD/Blu Ray player that is well built mechanically should provide years of service. http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NPCDT8 http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=WAWTP1 Last edited by Rex Anderson; 06-04-2018 at 09:39 PM. |

Think Rex has it right. Some great old CDPs out there............ until they break. Not like an amp, with many cross-reference-able parts. You could ask ML if they have the drive and/or optical block available and the cost (which can be shocking) before making your decision.

I bought a NO 31.5. It just had a new laser assembly installed by a Levinson certified shop. I was told it was $2200. Apparently the laser for this model has 2 drive motors, that are part of the laser setup. Everything else was up to spec.
Following advice here, I called a Levinson shop about parts availability. I was told most everything is still available. Also was told the laser would be what would need replacing, eventually. So with a new laser, hope I'm good for awhile...…… Thanks for all the help and advice! |
