Richard,

I think your speakers look amazing. I also took a look at the full version which is for sale on Audiogon, and I have to say that I might prefer the look of the Petites. I'm not commenting on performance. Just visual appeal. I suspect next year I'll need to hear a set of the Petite Latours against whatever John DeVore comes up with in the next O and the Tannoy KR's or Westies.

Still, I really dig the understated elegance of your Petites, Richard!

You are welcome to listen to mine as you decide.

I can see where many prefer the looks of the Petite. I really think its attractive, now that I have seen it in person.

But...the dimensions of the big Latour really appeal to me... I think, for this room, it doesn't make sense.

I think Matt recommended them too...will have to check it out. I was thinking about the Esoteric K-03 for SACD's, which reputedly has a great DAC as well. Not as sexy though.

There is also a shy Mr T running around.

That's a Wadia 121 DAC. It's from my old system so doesn't get used much.
Maybe replaced soon by an Esoteric k-03 or Oppo 105 for SACD playback, which I need, if their DAC is better than the Wadia.

I also need to add a headphone and amp if I can't use my speakers late at night.
Richard : you have an incredibly exciting, beautiful, voluptuous Shindo system and you must be in heaven.
I don't know how much you listen to digital but besides the ones you are mentioning, I would look at the MP3 Playback Designs DAC. It sounds INCREDIBLY analog and would be the best dac imho in a Shindo system.

Freestone,

What drivers do your Petite Latours have?

My two cents on this, as solid info on DACs is often scarce: I've had the great pleasure to listen to DACs from Wavelength, AMR, Acoustic Plan, Lampizator, and a couple others on Shindo gear when I was looking for a digital frontend for my system, and to my ear, at least, the AP and Lampy are a cut above. The AP is clean and natural, while the Lampy if full of life and the most "analog" of the lot. Either one is excellent, particularly when paired with the AP transport, but for my money, I prefer the Lampy. It's the only one that can give your 301 a half-decent run for its money, in my opinion. By the way, for anyone eyeing the AP, make sure you get the upgraded PSU, as it makes a noticeable improvement.

Stunning room, Free. I didn't know what the hell the reference to the cannon or relative's painting was until I looked at the dealer's site. I'll bet those are pretty substantial old walls and ceiling too, which just 'sound good,' compared to the sheetrock type of construction used today. Enjoy your system, I agree that equipment stand just 'clicks' aesthetically with the rest of the room.

Thanks for the DAc info. How close to the 301 I wonder?

And do you think the room is too small so the big Latours wouldn't sound as good as petite field coils?

Now want to compare we 618b I have vs Hommage step up.

Thank you!
I love spinning discs in that room...
