Sliding shelf for Turntables
What are your thoughts on Sliding shelfs for turntables?
I want to be able to protect my turntable from kids and pets. I do understand I could purchase a cover, yet Murphy's Law will have it so that the cover is subterfuge-ed Any Brand or set up recommendation for a shelf within an audio rack for a Turntable? Best, Bill |

How much does your turntable weigh and what are its dimensions?

Bill.......The issue I see with having a slide shelf for your turntable is vibration. Bearing assemblies used on either side of the shelf to allow it to roll out are inherently loose. This will allow the platform shelf to be less than stable under the turntable and will no doubt influence the sound of the turntable setup. Member 1KW, David, has his Michell Gyro on a slide out in his custom made audio cabinet. Perhaps he will chime in about his turntable setup.

I would go with a wall shelf (like the SolidSteel WS-5) high enough to keep away from the kids, and an acrylic cover from Stereo Squares.
Note: I have customized my WS-5 by adding a 3.5" maple block

I was thinking the same as Dan about the likely vibration issue. That being said Dean's suggestion would be a good option.

Okay, the response is overwhelmingly to use a solid, non resonant stand or wall shelf.
I will adjust accordingly. Thank you all! Bill |

You might consider one of the electric pet collars that delivers a shock when the pet (or kids) get too close!
