Bill.......You hit the nail on the head. .

I wonder what Paul actually considers “high-end” speakers.

No interest in what Paul thinks is high-end. As someone else said, if you bought the stuff he thinks qualifies you'd probably end up with an all-PS Audio system. And that wouldn't necessarily be bad, in fact it could be quite good. But it wouldn't necessarily float everyone's boat, mine included.

I actually had a salesman tell me that compared to the then-new SF Aida 2, my original Aidas sound like "a bunch of random drivers thrown into a box".

Granted, that dealership is heavily into Wilson Audio, speakers which I admire, but come on now! I actually heard the Aida 2 at that same dealership later during an open house and they sounded very, very good. But $80K better than my poor old Aidas (which is what it would have cost me to get into a new pair of Aida 2)? No way; not to me at least.

I guess I'll have to content myself with looking in at the "high-end" like a kid with his nose pressed against the candy store window. . .

True. I enjoyed his PerfectWave DAC a number of years ago but when I started comparing and listening to other DACs, found that the PS Audio sound/voicing wasn't always the right one for me.

Having owned Signums a number of years back, I thoroughly enjoyed those colored speakers and knew what I was interpreting in my mind at the time. I did an audition of Contour 1.3SEs in the same system, which are highly regarded speakers during that time (about 15-20 yrs ago), but couldn't tolerate their voicing at all.

To each their own and how their ears/brains interpret what is "good" or not.
