Default Bryston BDA/Wywires

Hello Folks

I have been in the fortunate position of enjoying a very nice dac/wire combo. I thought i would pass on my thoughts since this a hobby and when we find nice synergy its beneficial to everybody to pass on what we learn.

First the Bda is an excellent musical audio component. As much as i love all my other gear the bda is what drives the sound. Its sets up the soundstage and puts together the beat I feel with excellent timing and great high freq energy control. Its has excellent studio playback and allows us to gaze deep into the recording. I love hearing different recording techniques. You know when the drums are in the same room or when they are on their own recorded elsewhere. This is only because of the quality of source dac and its ability to generate or remanufacture whats been recorded.

I have read elsewhere about the BDA and BCD having a polished sound. I don't think this is the case at all. I find these components to be very unpolished and at mercy to the recording its playing. It has a way of letting the recording do its own thing either good or bad. Where the BDA excels is in its ability to keep noise and digital hash out of the way from becoming amplified. I think
it's these qualities why people tend to class the BDA sound as polished. Its ends ups making a lousy recording tolerable and a great recording sound like live music.

Cabling out of the BDA is imo a great way of keeping things more personal. In my listening journeys i am always looking for any last bit of tweaking. Little changes here or there that puts me closer to how identify with my music. Recently i came upon a very nice cable from Wywires. This lead from my BDA to my pre really took the BDA into a different class.

For sure a personal upgrade to say the least. Listening to Robin Trower's In this place off of the album Bridge of Sighs gives an ample supply of guitar melody and harmony. The BDA does a real nice job at allowing Robin Trower's guitar to seperate and play in its own space. What the Wywire cables did was give those guitars a very organic rich sound that i had never heard before. It was definitely not a change in tone but a robust guitar sensation. Its a real amazing sound. Not only do you get the rich tones but the harmonics seem to enjoy a wonderful sense of fullness. It is so nice.. .

I am hearing the BDA in a way i never heard and i like it. It would be wrong to contribute the sound to Wywire cables alone so i thinks it only appropriate to give it up to the BDA/Wywire combo.

Great to hear Werd.

I just came across wywires and did some reading on them. I like the premise of the company and the fact that the owner will NOT sell you wires until he has talked to you and understands what you are wanting/looking for.

I like that.

werd.......Chalk up one more positive for the Bryston BDA-1. Good to know the Wywire cable is synergistic, and provides a sweet performance boost.

Hi

Yes they are the real deal. I don't normally like to stick my neck out for cabling due to the contentious nature of the subject. He builds cables to the component match. The cable i use between the bda and my pre is not recommended to go between the my pre and power. He will build different cable for that. From what i understand he builds for component types not brands, so it doesnt matter what brand but just where you put them. Thats why he needs to speak to you find out where you want the cable to go.

WyWires is accepting cable trade-ins, too.
