SurgeX XF2 Installed
Yesterday I received my new SurgeX XF2 premium residential surge protection device. It is designed to mount to the back of flat panel televisions and projectors. The XF2 is engineered with professional grade Series Mode Surge Elimination, Impedance Tolerant EMI/RFI noise filtering, and Over-Voltage-Shutdown. It is rated for an 8 amp load, has its own built in circuit breaker, and a detachable IEC power cord. Included with the SurgeX XF2 are two side mounted brackets that can be attached and used to support the XF2 on a wall, or the rear of a flat panel television. It is a very well made surge protection device manufactured in Zebulon, North Carolina, U.S.A.
Since I use an APC interruptible power supply behind my living room widescreen, I chose to simply place the SurgeX XF2 on the floor next to the UPS. I plugged the XF2 into the wall receptacle, then plugged my APC UPS into the SurgeX device. In this manner my Sony 52XBR9 widescreen, Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player, and my DirecTV HD satellite receiver are all being protected by the SurgeX XF2. The over voltage shutdown is a nice extra feature, too. If the voltage exceeds 145 VAC, the SurgeX XF2 shuts off power to the receptacle. When the over voltage condition drops below 135 VAC it restores power to the receptacle. It is reassuring to know that each SurgeX product is assembled individually, by hand to ensure the premium 100% fail safe protection, guaranteed, and backed with an industry leading ten year product warranty, and ten year connected equipment warranty. How can you beat that? http://www.surgex.com/pdf/XF2-LR.pdf

Clean design internally, I happen to really like these too. They grace all my LCD/Plasma TVs, Projectors, and Pinball machine.

Ivan.......I was impressed when I pulled the cover. 100% protection, plus ten year connected equipment warranty is nothing to sneeze at, either. This is serious surge protection at a resonable price.

I would like to install a SurgeX FlatPak to protect my plasma tv. Is the SurgeX SA82 and XF2 the same?
They are both rated at 8 amps, will that be able to protect my Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD 60 inch plasma? I'm trying to calculate the numbers... I looked up power requirements for an NEC 60 inch plasma, said 440 watt draw typical (around 4amp). I'm not sure what the Pio Elite Kuro 60inchers draw? |

oppopioneer.......The SurgeX XF2 can handle loads totaling 960 watts at 120 volts AC. Look on the rear of your Kuro for the tag that displays the volts/watts or volts/amps. I think you are well within the load range of the SurgeX devices including your DVD and Satellite receiver.

Dan,
Are you using the Power Plant Premier for the TV as well?

Chuck.......
Jim....... I am not using a Power Plant Premier with my Sony widescreen, satellite receiver, and Oppo BDP-83. I have a dedicated circuit for this gear coming from a panel that is surge protected at the panel. The SurgeX XF2 is plugged into this dedicated circuit, then my APC UPS unit is plugged into the XF2, and then the gear is plugged into the APC UPS. After Ivan picked up the SurgeX line I decided to give the XF2 a try on my living room video set up. I have confidence that this gear powered from the SurgeX XF2 is totally protected. I am a firm believer that you cannot have too much surge protection.

Regarding IEC power cords, I ordered the SurgeX XF2 for my Pioneer Elite Kuro plasma tv, the SurgeX comes with a detachable IEC power cord, should I use the one supplied by SurgeX or the one supplied by Pioneer? Would have Pioneer designed or selected a certain cord to work in unison with their plasma? Does SurgeX's cord offer better protection?
I was told that a Transparent Audio IEC cord can improve the picture quality of tv's by a distributor who sells both SurgeX and Transparent. He claimed it made the picture on his Pioneer plasma "pop" more. They cost MSRP: $1,500.00, some others are over $600 dollars. Sounds like another "Monster" scam to me ??? |
