You know you could use coat hangers or radio shack cables until your fancy new cables come in.
I'd be too excited to get it set up to wait for the cables. |

I actually just stick my fingers in between my pre and the CR-1. It takes me a little out of my listening position but seems to work Seriously, been focusing a lot on placement, etc of the mains/sub so that it is an easy install when the cables come. As you all have said placement/room are probably most important aspects--- will be nice to free up my 2301s though. Check this out-- I am hearing from the folks at JL that the optimal x-over setting is 95hz. Wow! I use 43 ha right now-- will be interesting.

Ok, received everything. JL makes general setup a breeze-- though my cabinets were a bit of a pain. Set x-over at 95hz and played some tunes. Bass was ridiculous-- tight, low and really involving. Felt like I was missing some detail so burned in new cables for 15 hours -- I know, not enough. Huge difference tho! Ok I'm blown away by the bass-- musical and I'm now hearing lower octaves in piano keys and more breath in voices. I still have a lot of adjustments to make in phase, ARO but wow! Oh and my ib2 stands are a tad too high so Barry told me to adjust the horizontal angle of the speakers so they tilted down 10 -15 degrees. Huge difference-- thanks Barry!
My 2301s do have more punch in the mid-high range-- I was actually startled a couple of times and did turn down the stereo-- which I used to run at 30 watts and now run at around three watts and still feels louder... I was nervous about the CR-1 but had done a lot of reading. So far it exceeds expectations (fwiw). |

I have my system tri-amped using two Pass Labs XVR-1's and wouldn't trade those crossovers for anything. Way versatile as well as transparent.
I still have a Bryston Sub and an STD model and they are good too. I found anomalies with the Marchand crossover when testing with my dayton omnimic2. Crossover frequencies are fixed via plug in modules but I found a gap between the frequencies in mine. For instance it was as if low pass was 50hz while high pass was 70 with gap at 60. Wasn't my room or other equipment as the gap disappeared when using the Bryston or the Pass Labs. |

Hi all, do any of you have a solid recommendation for "big bang for the buck" active hi-pass crossover? I am trying to take the lower bass off of my Omega Alnico single driver monitors (and divert to my Martin Logan Depth i sub). This will let me play them louder with no distortion in my rather large open space (20 x 25 feet). Obviously transparency would be of the most utmost importance. I don't have a $1000 budget for some of the ones mentioned here, nor do I need all the bells and whistles.... Just an adjustable hi pass would be great, and I would prob need a 12 or 18 db/oct slope.

I will try that with the ML, but there are only 2 choices for the hi pass.... 40 hz and 70 hz. The 40 is prob too low, but the 70 may work.
