Default The shopping continues...

After taking around 10 months to decide on speakers and only one to decide on a subwoofer. I have come to value the insight of my AA colleagues, so I can’t make my next move with out consulting with you guys first. I need recommendations for my first phono stage. Source will be a Music Hall 7.1 with a Goldring Erohica H mc high output. Budget; I started with the Shitt Mani and I’m up to the Parasound jc3 jr. I really don’t want to go any higher price wise or at least I’m going to try. As always all and any input is appreciated.

Thanks.
RC

So, what does the Parasound JC3 Junior cost? Not a figure I have at the top of my head. Please give us a number and we can give you some suggestions.

It’s around the $1,500 price range.

I recommend and use the Gold Note PH-10 Phono Stage — ton of reviews and awards. Easy to use, made in Italy, well built, super flexible and an upgrade path.

Coincidentally I was reading about it earlier today and yes it sounds very interesting/appealing. I was wondering if the PSU power supply is required or can be used as a stand-alone, I think it’s not required and it can be added layer if desired.
Thanks Ron...

Ron
+1 on the Gold Note PH-10. I just got one and love it. Great bang for the buck.

The external PSU-10 power supply can be added anytime.

If you have the Parasound JC3 Jr already, I suspect you will need to be in the $2500 range to better it. I use a Musical Surroundings Nova II and based on some in house demos, I know I need to be in the $3K range to hear appreciable difference.
I tried the Parasound JC3+ and really liked it, but I did not care for the 64dB gain on MC....That's too much for my liking. Plus the input impedance range is better on the Nova II.

I might look at a different cartridge that mates well with the JC3 Jr.

I found that Sutherland Engineering "Insight" worked very well with my Music Hall MMF 9.3 and Goldring cartridge. You might want to go up the ladder and try one of their more expensive preamps.

Jose is right given where you are with the Parasound 'Jr', I doubt very much if you're going to better it at it's price point. Personally and IMO given your tt / cart combination I see no reason to change. If, down the road and you continue with your analog journey you may want to look at upgrading all three...............$$$
