I'm going to develop pure silver wifi antennas with a multi-layer, multi-directional teflon dielectric wrap encased in a pure 24k gold sleeve, sell them for $800 each, which are fully compatible with your average run of the mill $70 Linksys and D-Link wireless routers which can take up to 3 or even 4 antennas. That's a possible profit of $3200 worth of MY audiophile grade wifi antennas on your $70 router.

And don't forget to buy some of my audiophile wifi antennas for your wifi-ready stereo equipment as well.

I even bet Ivan will be the first to become an authorized dealer for my crap... Umm, I mean audiophile antennas.

Funny

I thought about fiber optic LAN for the home! Wait before the eyes roll back into your head.

Pros: Bandwidth and Port Density, Distance, and Physical Characteristics

a.) Fiber optic cabling also offers much larger transmission distance than copper cabling.

b.) Since fiber is non-conductive, it does not need lightning protection, and in the event of a lightning strike or surge it will not carry the transient voltage to equipment that can be damaged by it.

c.) Finally, the physical characteristics of fiber optic cabling offer some attractive advantages. Fiber is immune to external radio frequency or electromagnetic interference, unlike copper which can pick up interference from a number of sources along its run that may degrade the speed considerably.

Soooooooo you READY TO BUY?!.... BUY!...

Con: A touch pricey. This layout pricing is for my home *yeah like I'd do this *. Your pricing my vary.

a.) Cable (3) 13ft at 26.00 USD total 78.00 USD
b.) Optic NIC (3) PCI-e at 275.00 USD total 825.00 USD for (Sever, NVS1000, and still in use prototype)
c.) 8 port fiber optic switch 330.00 (USD)
d.) 4 port fiber to RJ45 300 (USD) (legacy hardware and cable modem)

grand total of 1533.00 (USD)

So what!? BUY!... BUY!.... At the of cost 1Gbps speed you'd bring a tear to even Ivan's eye!!

Ken

Blacsno,
that is a similar setup (also with quality switch) the guy who reviewed the Melco N1Z and N1A at Hi-fi news usually uses, and with that setup did not see any benefits of the ethernet capabilities of the Melco.
He had to swap from that setup to traditional wired (uses a good Belkin cable) and a basic hub-router for the NAS,MacBook, etc to achieve a marginal benefit for the Melco comparison.
So buy the fibre
Ok yeah it is a bit excessive , but ironically a similar price to using Melco if after only its network capability rather than direct USB setup.

Cheers
Orb

Bel canto uses fiber with ST connectors to link some of their digital gear together:

Let me just ask one question without debate.

Does everything that one puts into their system need to add sound improvments?

Oh and my comment you quoted was just a good opportunity for me to be a smart ass.

You all look to be enjoying the thread....carry on.
