I don't do politics but I like Jazz...
New on Qobuz. Jazz music is the perfect metaphor for democracy,” says famed trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. At a time when America—and indeed, the whole world—finds itself at a crossroads, the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer has been inspired to write a poignant and buoyant work, The Democracy! Suite, which proves that the joy and beauty of jazz can bring us all closer together. That new suite is now a digital album from Marsalis and a septet composed of members of the famed Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Recorded live in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room during the Covid-19 lockdown, the work is irresistible and irrepressible. Tracks like “Out Amongst the People (For J Bat)” and “Be Present” are an impassioned reflection of turbulent times that find peerless musicians working as a harmonious community, urging us to reflect on the past and reconsider the future. |

Ella swings brightly with Riddle
via Qobuz Recorded Nov-Dec '61. Not her best effort, although she won a Grammy (her 7th then).

Remaining with jazz trumpet music:
Enrico Pieranunzi & Bert Joris - Afterglow Qobuz 24/96 'Our' trumpet player with a very good Italian pianist (he's considered the best of his country). Good album!

More trumpet, and some fantastic drumming:
brown and roach incorporated via Qobuz This quintet was soooo good! The first of the EmArcy recordings of the Clifford Brown/Max Roach Quintet, this album features trumpeter Brown, drummer Max Roach, tenor saxophonist Harold Land, pianist Richie Powell and bassist George Morrow in fine form. High points include "Stompin' at the Savoy," "I Get a Kick out of You" and Brown's ballad feature on "Ghost of a Chance." Near-classic music from a legendary group. [Originally released in 1954, Brown and Roach, Inc. was reissued on CD in 2004.] © Scott Yanow /TiVo
