Default I took some measures ...

... now what ?

Room acoustics is very important to get the best of a system but it seems like it's very complicated to know what to do without being an expert. Plus, I have the constraint of having the system in my living room.

I played a bit with REW this week-end and got some measures but they just don't mean anything to me.

Do you know where I can find some reading for a newbie ?

These are the measure I took. They are all made at the listening point with a behringer ECM8000 plus I took additional measure on the left, right, front and back.

Right speaker SPL + Waterfall (500Hz)

Left speaker SPL + Waterfall (500Hz)

Average left + Average right SPL

RT60 + Impulse response

I love your graphs.

What measuring devices did you use?

I would be interested in purchasing some.

Looks like REW, featured on another forum.

I used REW on my macbook air which is plugged on my dac.

For the measures, I used :
- a USB sound card, i used the cheapest I found thomann.de/gb/the_tbone_micplug_usb.htm
- a mic, the Behringer ECM8000 is highly recommended by everyone thomann.de/gb/behringer_ecm_8000.htm
- the longest XLR cable I could find thomann.de/gb/the_sssnake_sk233-10.htm
- it is also good to buy a boom stand thomann.de/gb/millenium_ms2005_mic_stand.htm but I used the tripod of my camera though I had to remove the ball head

REW is pretty straightforward to use once you've setup everything but the tricky part is understanding the curves and finding a remedy ... That's were I'm stuck

I have a MacBook Pro, a boom stand and I have that microphone and cables.

What is REW and doesn't the Mac come with a sound card?

How do I connect the microphone to the Mac?

Do I need a separate DAC? I don't have one. I do have a MCD500. Can I use that DAC input?

REW is the software that I use to make the measure and get the output. You have to download it from another forum (i don't know if I can link to it) but it's free and has all you need.

The mic needs a 48V phantom power so you need a sound card with the phantom power to connect it to the Mac

I use the DAC input on my CD player (Accuphase dp-67) but you need to make sure that you are using the same sampling frequency along the chain. Otherwise you can connect the Mac straight on the pre amp.

I'm still learning a lot

George.......You can mention the forum where the REW software can be downloaded. The AA forum rules only say you cannot post an active link to the other forum. You can type the web address without the www. part of the URL (like I edited your post #5 above) and you will be good. Those URL's can be copied and pasted into the search line of your browser for access to those sites.

Got it

Anyway, it's the first link if you google REW or Room equalizer wizard
