C-2400 vs. C-2820
Hello from newbie!
I was free of "upgrade virus" for many years (about 15). But I've got option to buy my dream speakers for a very good price (Focal Nova Utopia Be) To tell the truth dream was Grand Utopia, but I can not afford it not in terms of money and not in terms of room. I've bought C-2400 pre and pare of m1000 monoblocks. I'm very happy with the result, but I wont to build the system for the rest of my life. ( I know limitations, but I want Here a few questions. First- I consider to add DG-38 with balanced options (I know DG-48 and DG-58 is better, but not fit my budget) Is it worth it? The second question- I have opportunity to buy C-2820 for about 6000$ I feel it should be reasonable upgrade. But since pre in different country I cannot audition it. Doe's someone can compare them? Another question- I'm looking for C2400 and M1000 manuals. I will be happy if someone can help with scan or copy. Thanks in advance! |

The C2820 will definitely be a worthwhile upgrade for you as it is a few generations newer. Plus, it is derived from the previous generation flagship preamp.
Having said that, the DG48(58) may give you an even greater improvement. As Mr. Suzuki said, the DG units will allow us to listen to our equipment rather than our room. So my suggestion is to get both! |

Thanks for reply. According to a few members of this forum pre and power should be matched from the same generation. 2820 is 20 years younger than m1000. Is it important? ( Persinally I dont think so)
I mentioned Dg-38? not DG-48. Some one said here that sonicaly it's the same. Is it correct? Which way is better to use it- between source and pre or between pre and power? |

Theoretically, newer generation should sound better. Each generation has improved AD/DA chips, power supply and s/n ratio.
Many users in Asia was lukewarm for the DG-38, but was quite happy with the DG48, and especially the DG58. DSP technology has come a long way. If you can get the newer generation, go for it. I'm using mine as a DAC for the purist signal chain. |

When I asked the folks from Accuphase the last time I visited they stated the same. Stick with newer generation through out. Of course they will say this to sell their current products, but I felt they were sincere.

I can understand it, specially in digital products. But high value of the market price for second hand equipment prove the quality of the old products as well.
I think M1000 monoblocks still very remarkable amplifier. Interesting to compare for example with today's 7300 |

Sometimes I think that it must be said that the improvements of a newer or a better unit are usually not "night and day" differences, speaking of Accuphase level gear and speaking of changing only one element on the chain.
For example I recently carefully compared the DAC portion of my DG-58 (2014), my DP-75 (1994) and my DC-81L (1988) and yes, there were some small differences that in an direct and immediate switch you can sometimes spot, but in a blind test I could hardly tell them exactly apart, both with speakers and headphones (LCD-2 and also STAX 009). If I enter the room and I don't know wich one is playing, I must be honest: I don't know 100% for sure. The same is not true regarding DSP: I immediately notice if the DG-58 is on or off. Or the speakers: I immediately notice if the S-2ex or the 801 S3 are sounding. These really are big and always noticeable differences Last edited by Mattia; 01-18-2016 at 01:25 PM. |

This is why I'm in doubt about pre upgrade. I cannot audition 2820 aganst 2400. I'm sure it should be better. But is this "better" will be proved by blind test?
