Album : Diminuito
Composer : Various, from the Renaissance
Artist : Rolf Lislevand and friends
Released : 2009
Label : ECM New Series
Format : CD

Quote:
Rolf Lislevand is a Norwegian baroque guitarist who was born in 1961. His work has concentrated on two distinct streams. On the one hand, he is a highly regarded performer of traditional Baroque music, recording works by Bach, Monteverdi, and Gautier. On the other hand, he is a skilled improvisor who has composed ideosyncratic works that combine Baroque instruments and conventions with more contemporary instruments like jazz bass and percussion.

A most enjoyable recording, highly recommended !

Krzysztof Penderecki °1933 - Violin Concerto No. 2 "Metamorphoses"
Anne-Sophie Mutter, violin
London Symphony Orchestra, Krzysztof Penderecki

Béla Bartók: Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 Sz 76
Anne-Sophie Mutter, violin
Lambert Orkis, piano

A recommendation from this thread.
The Penderecki piece is stunning!
My first listen to this concerto is already immensely convincing.
He wrote (92-95) and dedicated it to Ms Mutter after hearing her playing the First Violin Concerto from Prokofiev in 1988, Lucerne Festival.
Modern but very accessible and with strong energy and vibrations!

- Philippe Pierlot, basse de viole
- Rolf Lislevand, Xavier Diaz-Latorre, théorbes et guitares
- Andrew Lawrence-King, harpe "di tre ordine"
- Pedro Estevan, percussion

Truely a superlative recording !
The 5 CD set does not have the newer recording of B]Suitte d'un Goût Etranger - Pièces de Viole du IV Livre. 1717[/B]. It has the older Astrée performance I have on vinyl. This box is part of the AliaVox Heritage series, which is a project to reissue everything they did on the Astrée label from the 70s to the 90s. The issue below is newer and separate. I am going to order it as well.

Thanks for the update, Dean.
This info makes me more willing to buy the 5 SACD set re-issue.

Album : Beethoven - Complete works for solo piano, Vol.3
Composer : Ludwig van Beethoven
Artist : Ronald Brautigam, fortepiano
Released : 2006
Label : BIS
Format : FLAC (24-bit/88KHz)

Quote:
Gramophone Award; Music Web International: outstanding.

With just two discs released so far, Ronald Brautigam’s cycle of Beethoven’s piano music has already become firmly established. From the very start the reviews have been glowing, describing Volume 1 (BIS-SACD-1362) as ‘not simply refreshing, but exceptional and revolutionary’ (klassik.com) and hailing it as the start of what ‘could be a Beethoven piano-sonata cycle that challenges the very notion of playing this music on modern instruments, a stylistic paradigm shift.’ (Fanfare).
Brautigam’s performances of the early sonatas of Op. 1 and Op. 2 (Volume 2, BIS-SACD-1363), met with a similar reception, and were described as ‘revelatory’ (The Times, UK) and as ‘lifting us to heights that one thought were unattainable on the fortepiano’ (Classica-Répertoire).

Alongside with Brautigam’s playing, his instrument – by master builder Paul McNaulty – and the quality of the recordings – by Ingo Petry – have also been singled out for praise. These three join forces once more, in the Sonatas Op. 7 and Op. 10, composed by a Beethoven who at 26 had become the talk of all Vienna, and whose services as a performer, composer and teacher were avidly sought after by the aristocracy.
The Sonata Op. 7, at the time nicknamed Die Verliebte, was dedicated to one of Beethoven’s pupils, the Countess Barbara Keglevics, with whom he may have been in love. Be that as it may – the sonata’s strong focus on emotional and psychological effects has made many consider it a milestone in Beethoven’s development: the first Romantic work he produced.
The young composer’s desire to break away from the classical mould is also evident in the three sonatas Op. 10, most particularly in No. 3, with its highly romantic and personal second movement.

I'm listening to this today with a loaner turntable. If you like Medieval/Renaissance music this is excellent. I'm really glad I found this on eBay as a sealed copy ($40 for a 4 LP set). It was a completely serendipitous discovery.

But I can't listen to it until I get my damaged phono cartridge sorted out.
