Might trade in my Rotel, ADVICE
I have the Rotel 1590 PRE AMP
But currently having some issues with it, popping / clicking noises when streaming... Am thinking of trading this in for the McIntosh D150 pre amp; would this be a superior upgrade? I would pair it with my ROTEL 1582mkii AMP but would consider trading that in for the MC152 or the MC302 thanks |

It Will be night and day difference. I had all rotel setup before and my friend found it to be bright and hard, so he lended his Mac C712 preamp for me to try. It was in a completely other league. So from There I Sold all my rotel setup and built an all around mac setup. Never looked back since.

I'm a little nervous although id be cool to have McINTOSH gear, but its 2-3x the cost and i could see myself bringing it home and saying this doesn't sound THAT much better =] but at least i'll look cool

Fair concern and no one here can address that for you. Don't forget however that McIntosh equipment will retain its value and performance for years. Likely far better than the Rotel equipment.

I used to own a Rotel preamp and amp for a couple years. Rotel is good, solid "mid-fi." I replaced them with Classe, which offers somewhat of a similar sound but is much more refined and resolving. In my experience McIntosh gear is warmer sounding than either Rotel or Classe. McIntosh products resolve somewhat similarly as Classe for a detailed, musical listening experience. If you want American-made products that hold value over a long time, you can't go wrong with McIntosh.
