I'd agree that Fire is probably the sweet spot, but WBY bright? That's not been my experience; to me it's actually very slightly warmer, and smoother, with a bit more spatial information, than Fire - but to be fair my WBY's had the old-style XLR connectors (ugly purple monster BAXLR) when I compared the two. And the silver content shouldn't be any different from Fire to WBY; the only difference should be the larger air tubes and blue paint on the connectors. Tonally, the Fire was actually slightly more similar to WEL than WBY when I compared them. But again, that may be result of the more modern XLR connectors. Anyways, I cannot imagine even a current-version WBY being anywhere close to bright.
WEL Signatures are certainly far more expensive. But they're definitely top of the AQ line for their transparency, tonal neutrality, and spatialization. I've seen some good deals on WBY recently (a lot of which were splits from a longer pair, which can make for a good deal); maybe WBY is the new sweet spot if buying used? But if buying new, then definitely Fire is sweet. Last edited by mulveling; 04-24-2018 at 11:56 AM. |

Mr. Postman delivered me the Fire 5 Minutes ago.
Wooah. It's another class than Earth and even Wind regarding the physical appearance. In some hours i will test it against my Earth and the Fadel Art Reference One (one of the last that has been build before Mr. Fadel died 4 years ago). Yeah!

Cool, hope you enjoy; you almost certainly will! Fire is actually their best looking interconnect; the red braid and painted connectors just do it for me (though the WEL is cool too). And yes, they have a heft and quality about them in person that makes them feel a class above the Water/Earth/Wind.

I had to go to work, but... You know... Curiosity...
Just 5 Minutes (burned in for 24hours and had Earth plugged in before) were enough to make me smile. The Wind didn't do it for me as described (too thin sounding) but the Fire seems to have everything i need. Now definitely my Pre and PowerAmp can't compete with the new cable so i have to upgrade them whenever, but... Who cares.

In the "Audioquest Interconnect Cables compared to Wireworld" thread you can read more about it... Wind (similar to the old Niagara) can be a littly bass shy and even a bit harsh sounding. Sky is definitely better if you can find it on the second hand market (genuine not fake). WBY is never harsh, never bright no matter how hard you try to make it sound like that.
Actually it's a very good idea to reposition the loudspeakers once you install a new interconnect so the germans gave you a very good advice, GBP! P.S. As far as I'm concerned, Fire is one helluva cable! May you enjoy it in good health! __________________ Amp: BAT VK-655SE Pre-amp/Digital: exaSound e32 w UpTone JS-2 Power Supply; SOtM tX-USBultra w UpTone LPS1.2; Apple Mac Mini w UpTone DC Conversion Kit & UpTone JS-2 Power Supply; Squeezelite w Logitech Media Server 7.9.0 Speakers: Triangle Magellan Cello II Cables: AudioQuest WEL XLR, AudioQuest Everest, AudioQuest Hurricane HC, AudioQuest NRG-1000, AudioQuest Diamond USB Rack: Solid Tech Hybrid Tweaks: Omicron Stabilizzatore Armonico & Gold Evolution SE; IsoTek Sigmas GII w Optimum EVO3; Furutech FT-SWS (R) AC Outlet; Synergistic Research Blue Quantum Fuse Last edited by johndoe21ro; 06-04-2019 at 04:02 AM. |

Oh that might be the very far feature.
Next two upgrades are the Speakercables from Oak to Redwood and my PreAmp.
