I have previously cleaned some not-too-pricey power cords with Flitz and heard improvements. A good example is the captive power cord on the Monster PowerCenter that powers a modest home theater system. A surprising amount of tarnish came off using Flitz.

Another good use of Flitz is to clean the wires that feed AC outlets (after killing the AC circuit first, obviously). This is a safe one to try to see if it's worth using this stuff.

I have yet to be brave enough to try Flitz on expensive cords - like my Shunyata cords. I'm hoping someone else can weigh in on that move. I instead use Deoxit to clean these occasionally.

Thanks for the report. That's very helpful. Regarding the use of Deoxit on the Shunyata power cords, would you say you noticed an improvement?

I’ve never done them independently. I’ll shut down a component, pull it out of the rack, then clean the metal parts of the component and connecting cables. After doing my entire system, I think I hear a subtle improvement.

The improvement will depend on how much corrosion has been removed. The more regular the cleaning, the less one will hear.

I should point out that I tend to apply Deoxit’s Gold contact enhancer after cleaning.

I live directly on salt water. When I remember I try to use Deoxit Gold on anything made of metal that makes contact. Invariably, the ones I forget to do that to remind me that I should’ve. My biggest problem is that the contacts where this is the biggest problem are the most difficult to work with (3.5mm jacks and microSD card slots).

Robert.......Ah, yes. The joys of slat air intrusion from living along the coast. It plays havoc on a lot more than contact surfaces.

Britt.......The simple action of removing a plug from a receptacle and plugging it back in provides fresh, clean contact points. The metal to metal friction between the plug blades and the receptacle contacts scrubbing against each other negates the entire concept of polishing plug blades, in my opinion. This is exactly why I unplug and reconnect my AC plugs and all audio interconnects at both ends at least once a year as preventative maintenance, thus providing fresh contacts between the conductive surfaces.
