As Big Bill mentioned earlier I did own Salk SS8's previously. I then ventured into Harbeth and ultimately ended up with Omega Super Alnico High Output Monitors (the pics on the Omega website are actually my speakers). Jim Salk was a pleasure to deal with and a true gentleman.

So I'm a detail freak and I love my highs to shimmer and decay into the thin air. Bass extension is important too so long as its not boomy and of course, the midrange has to be fleshy and lifelike. In my system, my room, my music, etc., etc., the SS8's Accuton mid woofer was too cool for me. The SS8's RAAL tweeter is really good but does require some adjustment (effort?) to listen to. Bass on the Salks is really good though.

Looking for a more lifelike presentation I then ventured over to the Harbeth Super HL5 Plus' based on a lot of rave reviews. They are fine speakers for sure but all my music tended to have a sameness to it regardless of artist, genre.

The Omega Super Alnico HO Monitors are brutally honest in their presentation. They offer exactly what is given them. They are excellent sounding and my favorite speakers to date. I'm sure their lack of a crossover and the awesome Alnico driver are the main reasons. The bass and midrange on these is excellent and the highs are extended with the decay that I require. All of this from a single driver!
