Congrats on the purchase! You will love the SLI-80. I had one for a number of years and it was a beautiful sounding amp. It also makes for a terrific headphone amplifier as well, should you be interested in such.

........ went with JAN Philips 6922s, which I've enjoyed before. The re-issue Tung-Sol 6SN7s and 6550s and JAN Sylvania for 5U4GBs. Once I find them, will likely get a pair of JAN Sylvania 6SN7s. Have spares of all these in various ilks (Winged C 6550s, RCA 5U4s, JAN Sylvania 6922s and RCA 6SN7s), so will do some tube rolling. Will be fun to check out my 'sonic memory' of the SLI-70.

Glenn.......The SLI-80 Signature Integrated Amp looks good in red and black, too.

Here's a link to a Positive Feedback review of the SLI-80: http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue24/cary_sli80.htm

SLI-80 arrived today. Perfect timing as so did the new tubeset. Got everything unpacked, installed and bias set. Sounds terrific after 15min burn-in on the new tubes. Looking forward to getting 50 hours on them. Will post a pick when I get a chance.

Glenn.......That was perfect timing. I'll bet the Cary is a beauty. Looking forward to additional comments as the tubes get some hours on them.

After ~10 hours of run-in on the tubes the SLI-80 compares quite favorably to what I recall from the MC275MkV with the JA RM7XL, a somewhat smaller monitor speaker then then the JA Cinergy 5.1s am now listening to. Very smooth and extended. If anything, in triode mode, might go just a bit deeper than the MC275MkV. But, the 5.1s have dual low-range drivers while the RM7s have only a single, which could account for the difference. One thing is for sure............... the SLI-80 completely humbles the MA2275 I had for a while. This is the integrated amp that McIntosh should/could have built, sonically speaking. Am very pleased and will start spinning some vinyl later in the week.

Edit: Daughter has her mother out for brunch and a stroll on the boardwalk, so I'm getting to do some 'rockin out' with Stevie Ray Vaughn. Think there is no question that the SLI-80 Sig has a more 'guts' than I recall the MC275MkV having. Of course, that is is designer/builders choice and may be some of the reason the new MC275MkVI got a different feedback scheme and more bass. Whatever, the more I listen the better it sounds. More bottom-end and nothing taken away from the mid-range and highs. Plus, am also pleased by the looks of the SLI-80 (though no more so than McIntosh). What's not to like?

Glenn.......I am not surprised to hear your comment about the Cary stepping on the MA2275. You would think a McIntosh preamp and 75 watt per channel stereo tube power amplifier on a single chassis would be the cat's meow, but I have heard and read any number of owners who complained that they were less than trilled with the MA2275's performance for one reason or another. I have never owned or auditioned one, so I am speaking only of hearsay. It is good to know of your first hand experience with both integrated amplifiers. From what you have described, it sounds like the Cary SLI-80 Signature is quite the performer. I am happy you are so pleased with its sound and looks. At a retail price of $4300.00 it seems to be an exceptional value.

A friend of mine ... just bought a "se" version, with BLUE colour faceplate. He's very happy with it since collected it last weekend. As for the MA2275, think a C22/MC75 60th Anniversary version would be better in every other way. Thats how I feel. BUT then, the costs is way more .....
