Hello all. This is my first post here. I'm in the initial phases of putting together a 2-channel (2.1) system at home. I've been doing a ton of research online and this forum has been invaluable in helping me make some decisions. I was cured of the audiophile bug for about 15 years, but am drawn back to it and am having a lot of fun catching up.

The first decision was speakers. I've been using B&W's since college (first DM1800s, then downsized to 601 S1s). I considered some new diamond series speakers (804D or 805D plus a sub). After many conversations and listening sessions, I decided on Sonus fabers. I was ready to pull the trigger on Cremona Ms, but wanted something a little more special. Again, based on input from this forum, I set my sights on Guarneri Mementos (and I really wanted Graphite). Last week, a brand new pair was listed for sale at a great price. Although the listing said they were Red Violin, they in fact are Graphite. I just received confirmation that they are new, "A" stock, full warrantied, Graphite, and on the way to my home. Very excited!

Now I need to work on electronics and cables. I'm pretty sure I'll go with a McIntosh C2300 for pre amp. Based on Dan's review of the MC452, I'm having a hard time deciding between it and a pair of used MC501s.

These decisions will dictate what I will budget for a sub, DAC, ICs, PCs and speaker cable. I set an expectation with my wife about budget (plus or minus) and am trying to stick to it.

Dan's recent review of the Wireworld Silver Eclipses has me wanting them, but I'm having a hard time fitting them into the budget.

I look forward to trying to piece this puzzle together and getting help from you all on where to allocate the budget. This will likely be a slippery slope...

Welcome Jason

It does sound like you have made some wise choices as you re-enter this crazy hobby of ours. You will be very happy with either amp you are considering.

Jason.......Welcome to Audio Aficionado. Every subscriber here appreciates you supporting this great forum right out of the chute. Thank you.

It certainly appears you have been bitten hard by the audio bug once again, and it is obvious you are off to a fine start. I think your choice of the McIntosh C2300 is hard to beat. It is a tremendous full featured tube preamplifier. You will love it. My suggestion for amplifiers is the MC452. I have owned and loved the MC501's. There is nothing not to like about them. Having said that, the MC452 delivers everything the MC501's do, and a fresh sense of presence, plus a quicker dynamic pace. The sound is addicting. I drove SF Guarneri Memento's with the MC501's and the MC452. The 501's were replaced with MC601's for the same reason I like the MC452. The price of a pair of clean 501's will not be that far below a new MC452. I'm sure your dealer will work with you to make it as painless as possible.

Again, welcome aboard AA. Looking forward to following your audio adventures.
