So they are out ? Been waiting for quite a while.

LiFe is not Lithium polymer (LiPo). Less susceptable to puffing if over discharged & more tolerant to overcharging. Better quality ones can also take greater charging current (i.e. more than 1C). However their nominal voltage per cell is 3.3V lower than the 3.7V of a LiPo.

Joe Ling

Source 2 - Avid Acutus SP reference + Thales Reference tone arm + Benz Micro LPS (DS Audio Master 1 broken tip repaired but cost me USD2k. Still having issues - channel imbalance - back to dealer. However, channel issues not withstanding, sounded very very nice. Need to get it back soonest)

Source 3 - DCS Vivaldi + Antelope reference clock or Cybershaft Op18 (not floating my boat so far)

Source 5 - ROON ROCK with Aurender W20 as NAS & 2 units of SOTM switch with 10M input (the new frontier but still cannot beat CD for now) - ROON endpoint - Vivaldi upsampler

Amplification - Naim Statement

Speakers - ProAc Carbon 8 + JL FM113 x2 (replacement purchased - Stella Utopia EVO but due to lockdown, could be a year's wait)

Purepower 2000 x 2 (&$@#% but
sounds nice)

And for that price...

Makes the MC-200 selling between $3k-$4k seem pretty reasonable.

As an owner of the S10 server, I am looking forward to auditioning the W20 when a demo unit becomes available to me. While the price is not an easy pill to swallow, the tech involved intrigues me.

I also want to point out to the critics (who have not heard the W20 but are so quick to chime in) that it is NOT a CAPS3 server with a pretty faceplate; it is much more. The tri-bank battery power alone solves all the extras we are always tinkering with (RedWine battery, iFi USB, isolated duplex, PCs, etc...) - although I admit the safety issues must be considered. The board is also not off the shelf but purpose built for sound quality. The USB output is also a custom unit and the W20 provides dual AES and clock support. The HDDs shut down after albums/playlists are in the SS HDD's cache. With 256GB of space, I think most of my frequently listened to music will always be in cache dispensing with the spinners from ever spinning.

Also, the GUI is, IMO, superior to JRiver (by a tad) and miles ahead of MPad and its ilk.

Lastly, playback is phenomenal. While I have not listened to Chris' CAPS servers, my S10 betters any laptop and/or Mac Mini that I've listened to in my home.

The W20 is out there for those reaching for that last incremental improvement to be found in digital playback. And, for those not wanting to deal with OS patches/updates as it is all handled automatically and/or remotely by Aurender. If it all works as advertised, I'll spend the dough.
