Working my way through this box set:
It is pleasant work indeed. CD 29: West Coast jazz: Art Pepper Art Pepper (as), Carl Perkins (p), Ben Tucker (sb), Chuck Flores (d). Recorded in '57, and a charm. Pepper sounds like Paul Desmond, but a bit rougher.

^^^^ From the same box:
CD 30: West Coast Jazz: Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All Stars Maynard Ferguson, Shorty Rogers (t), Milt Bernhart (tb), Jimmy Giuffre, Bob Cooper (ts), Frank Patchen (p), Howard Rumsey (sb), Shelly Manne (d), Carlos Vidal (cga). Recorded at Hermosa Beach, Ca 21.02.1953, and typically for that time with latin influence (was it Dizzy Gillespie that started the trend?). I hadn't heard Rumsey before, it's a nice discovery.
