Wavacs ..... the next in line for home demo!
Hmm, I bet the M1.2s would sound great with your speakers but I'd be leaning more towards an all tube system first and if you feel you still need more grip on your speakers then go for the hybrids. I think Wavacs would be a great place to start your experiment. Which model did you have in mind?

Might as well put Audio Note on your short list too.

Hi Serge.
It looks alot like you have made your choice. If that is true, congratulations!
I have decided to audition both the Lamms and the MC2301. No one in my area - Richmond, Va.- has either to see or hear. The dealer in Delaware, Lyric, does have them available to hear. I will try to put a trip together to listen to the 2301 and the Lamms (at your place), if the offer still stands. I'll PM you when I get a time line in mind to see if its convenient. The more I read your posts, the more interesting those Lamms sound. Unless I changed speakers (B&W 802s), I would probably have to go for the M2.2. The first 40 watts are pure class A on those. Good for lower level listening! Ted.

The C500P is still getting some more play time in my system. It may even get more when I pick up a turntable.

Out of curiosity, what sort of price range does Lamm live in?

Hah. I didn't even look for the prices link. I'm too used to HiFi people refusing to say anything about prices unless you've talked to twelve dealers.

Vladimir is a very helpful, down to earth kind of a guy. I've sent them a few emails asking a few questions and they have been very prompt in getting back to me and taking their time to explain the answers in great detail.

Here is just one of the emails I've sent a while back asking about compatibility of the C500P gain and Lamm M1.2 monoblocks before I even purchased them.

"Dear Serge,

Thank you for your email and your interest in the Lamm amps.

The voltage gain of your preamp, according to McIntosh spec is:

2.5 V : 450 mV = 5.56.

The nominal sensitivity of M1.2 Ref. is about 0.725 V (see the specs). Therefore, if we divide 0.725V by the voltage gain of your preamp we’ll get the input voltage that we need to apply to your preamp to get the nominal power from M1.2 Ref.:

0.725 V : 5.56 = 0.13 V

These are approximately the parameters of Lamm preamps that were designed to work with M1.2 Ref. So, you will have no problems using these amps with your C500P preamp.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance."
