Bump from Thrill Of The Hunt thread. It is relevant to what Alberto is going through.

The Thrill Of The Hunt
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have approached this subject before, primarily about my McIntosh system, but in fact it applies to all of us wild and crazy audio nuts.

I have my main McIntosh system exactly where I want it. I am completely awe struck with the C1000C/P, the MC501 amps, the MCD500, and my PMC EB1i speakers. It is breathtakingly wonderful, blooming like a hybrid rose, continuously revealing its full beauty and essence. The MC501 amps are so much more than I ever thought they would be, so transparent, so powerful, so effortless. The MCD500 recreates live performances in my room every time I press the play button, and the C1000C/P is the crowning jewel. The entire sound system is synergistic beyond belief, and I am ecstatic, almost beyond words.

Advancing that thought a little, I feel a tiny tinge of melancholy, not about my system, but about not needing anymore McIntosh equipment. It's sort of like the hunt is over, nothing new that I want to buy for my system. In short, it is a bummer! The hunt is exciting, and exhilarating. The anticipation of brand new gear arriving quickens the pulse, and the joy of new gear in the system is always overwhelming. So now what do I do?

I know, there's an enormous pleasure that comes from enjoying the system I have assembled. No doubt about it. I absorb all the music I can each and every day, and love every minute of it. I still search for new music, and buy new CD's almost weekly, but it's not like shopping for new equipment. The hunt for new gear is such an adrenaline rush.

Is the thrill of the hunt behind you? Have you experienced the end?
