I agree with Alberto. Yes the Cremona's CAN rock, and sometimes I am actually amazed at how loud they play. Sometimes in my room I am like "Woah" when listening to something with great dynamic range, and I reach for the remote to turn down the volume.

However, if you are wanting to listen to things at bonecrushing volumes, there are better speakers for you.

Just remember, there is always a tradeoff. A speaker that is very subtle and lithe, sweet and smooth might not play loud enough without strain to kill insects, but a speaker that will play that loudly will most likely sacrifice a desirable quality of its own.

Interesting guys... thank you.

Some very good comments on two very good speakers.

Thanks.

Those swooshing sound phase tricks imbedded into "Whole Lotta Love", caught me by surprise when played through the Sophia 2. They were actually over my head and circling around 3-4 feet directly above the listening position. No other speaker has pulled that out in my room before. The Sophia 2 is pretty incredible with the soundstage tricks...

The full range vs monitor+subs debate depends on how much room you have to position the speakers and also on what kind of effort you will put into positioning the full range speakers to get smooth bass response as well as how well the subs will be adjusted to blend seamlessly with the monitors. I ran the SF G Memento's with two JL F112s to a performance level that can't possibly be achieved with full range speakers in my room. Not too many speakers can do bass down to 19Hz flat either. Certainly not the Cremona.

Thats why I purchased the Auditors and JL sub.

The LS360's are bug crushing loud!
I need that too, depending on mood.
Their size give you an undestructable feeling.

When I hit the turbo volume on the SF Auditors, I always feel like something is going to shoot out and kill my fish tank, but the speakers always perform great without grenading. A Very moving experience.

I will try Led Z, when I get the sub hooked up.

Cheers.

My two cents worth.

Cent 1: with a subwoofer, you can control the level of the bass to somewhat match to your room. If the bass is too much on some recordings, you can dial it back with a sub. You can always dial the bass back with a tone control, but when you dial back with a tone control, the lowest bass is reduced the most, and the mid-bass (were things might be out of hand) is not reduced as much. But with a sub, you can lower the whole bass region together (like a shelf rather than roll-off) and not lose the low bass disproportionately. At least that's the theory. I currently do this with my stats in my smallish, square room and I worry about losing this ability if I were to switch to a full range speaker.

Cent 2: As in all cases with separates, upgrading is easier. If you have funding restrictions, you can start without the sub, and maybe upgrade with better and better subs, etc.

Congratulations King, you made the correct choice my friend! I agree with the others, monitors and sub offer the best of both worlds. Imaging/soundstaging are AMAZING with the Auditors. The addition of sub(s) allows one to pull the speakers out into the room away from the room boundaries without concern for loss of bass reinforcement from the walls to aid the main speakers. The presence of subwoofers allows you to ace them wherever in the room Allows the smoothest, most powerful response, not to mention adjustable gain and xover frequency. I love the sound of my Auditors plus newly acquired REL Brittania B2 (upgraded from a B3). Looking forward to adding a 2nd B2 in the near future.

Alberto
I am going to audition the Elipsa's to satisfy the Lu Flu again but I may skip this upgrade and keep the cremona's that I have which sound terrific and just buy a JL F112 sub. to augment just a touch of sub 35 hz bass .

I think the Lu Flu is messing with your mind.

David.......By the time you finally decide to make a purchase (speakers, sub, turntable, whatever), all the model numbers will have changed.
