Treasure Chest
So I am spinning some vinyl this evening when all of a sudden it hits me like a ton of bricks... I had a whole stash of LPs from when I was a teenager... Where are they???
Then I vaguely remembered seeing them in a box and stashing them somewhere in the basement storage room about 15 years ago when we first moved into our house... Then I started to think I may have thrown them out some years ago.... Of course I just had to go look for them just in case. After some digging around stacked boxes of old school and college books, low and behold, there they were in the corner of the closet!!! Approximately 30 years old... All in pretty good shape. Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Asia, Toto, The Who, Cars, Abba, Foreigner, ELO, Devo, Billy Joel, Joan Jett and some other foreign LPs. The cool part was cleaning them with my younger son on the VPI Typhoon and telling him I used to listen to them when I was his age and a bit younger. Of course we had to spin some, Led Zeppelin IV, Houses of the Holy, Ozzy.. After we cleaned and spun the vinyl, I of course almost got teary eyed.. so many memories of each of those albums, so many hours spent listening to them back then in my room.... Some clicks, some pops, I didn't have a good turntable back then, some scratches here and there but the music is just as warm and inviting as I remember it being back then. My son listened to them with me, of course I told him some of the memories of when I was his age. He looks at me and says, "Dad, I wish we still had vinyl today instead of iPods, it looks like a lot of fun and the music sounds great!" Wow, I said to myself, maybe not everything is lost just yet.... This was a truly nostalgic moment and a surprise this evening. |

Serge,
We must be about the same age... I have a lot of that same vinyl in storage myself. Looking forward to getting it out some day. Maybe a future son and I.... |

PHC1- This is the beauty of music. Sharing with the younger generation, passing on tradition, is really what it's all about. I'm getting emotional writing this...

I love stories like this. It PROVES the music is a trigger of sorts that can jog the most distant of memories we have.
