I have to assume he's getting the standard 16/44.1 out of the Mac and the Burmester upsamples to 24/192.

Yes, sorry if I was not more clear. But, now I kow I am not doing something wrong (too much) with my MacBook hooked up to my Burmester, because the transport and DAC in my 089 blows away the sound from my MBP. But, I still need to get a usb>spdif converter like M2Tech for the MBP. I have an extra slot in my 089 for a "future media interface" whatever that is. ..A it now, with my 089, I use it as a preamp with it's analog volume control, I run my cable thru it, my blu-ray player thru it, and now a MBP. My blu-ray player also has 250 hard drive for storage. So far i have about 300 CD's on it. And the MBP came with 2,000 iTunes on it,so I want to find out the best sound to use it.

Jim...it's interesting. One of the things I have been enjoying these last 3-4 weeks with my new vinyl rig is that you can't easily jump around and select the songs you only want to hear, forcing you to hear the whole album. You get to find out that you you like many songs that you had previously glossed over in the digital playback medium because it's so easy to jump around.

That is a good point. Even with cd's I like to listen to a whole cd, even if once in a while I have to fast forward. I found out on my MacBook Pro, even tough it has over 2,000 songs in it, they are not whole albums per se, and that kind of bums me out.

+1

When I play a cd, weather on the computer or conventional cd player, I like to hear the whole thing. I find that music I initally either don't like or am not too crazy about, grows on me. I start to appreciate it more and more.

LOL. I don't know how many cd's I now love, and at first, I did not care too much for them, or maybe just a few songs on it.

Sorry guys, not for me. I can think of very few a discs I listen to all the way thru even if they are by my favorite artists. There is always a track or two that do not interest me.

I buy music for listening not collecting. On a regular basis I go thru my servers and delete disc I don't listen to. Two weeks ago I cleaned up the MS-300 for the second time in six months. Since I had to move my CD rack when I was hanging the new wall treatments I decided to get rid of discs I had not listened to or were mistakes in the first place. The Salvation Army received a donation of about +/- 300 discs this year.

I think it does a disservice to the artist and the engineer, when people make their own lists. In fact, that is why I only listen to Pandora (eg) for background music. I prefer MOG to listen to albums over the internet. I personally find it distasteful to butcher albums. But hey, that is just me.

Jim...my listening habits mirrored yours before I got my vinyl rig. And I totally agree with you, there is rarely an album where every single track manages to keep you fully engaged and enjoying the music (there are quite a few ofcourse but not all) but as Talk2me and Joe have mentioned for me what has happened with vinyl is that since I am essentially forced to hear a full-side of an album, there are many songs that at first hearing I was on the fence on that have grown on me and I understand and hence enjoy them more with each repeat listen. In any case, it's just been a different approach to how I listen to music and I am enjoying it for now.
