I would not recommend CAT 5e for any of today's higher bandwidth applications when you can get CAT 6 for the same price. Nor would I patch HiFi with an unshielded CATegory. Eg. CAT 6.

Your CATegory performance rating will be as good as your weakest link in your infrastructure. For example, if your patch panel, keystones or wall mechs are not all rated at the same category, then up goes your crosstalk & down goes your performance. Similarly, you want a robust dedicated switch, preferably managed. If you are just patching into the back of your 5 port Internet router, forget about getting great Local Area Network (LAN) performance.

As for structured cabling to the patch panel, CAT6 solid core is now the accepted standard in Australia. You would question why an installer would even elect to pull CAT 5e in your house.

Stay away from CAT 7 patch leads. You most certainly do not have the infrastructure, will have grounding & performance issues as a consequence.
Steve, thanks for your post. I clearly had my facts wrong in regard to Cat 5 cable. Much appreciated

VGP2013????

Thanks Toga for this useful pointer..

For starter, I have just placed an order for the "AIM LAN cable "SHIELDIO" エイム electron NA3-R015 (1.5m)". Hope this goes well.

Also hoping to get my hands on the AQ Diamond soon. It is a pre-order item locally, dealer only stock basic models here--ie. Forest, Coffee. As this is quite costly, preferable to at least hear from someone who has had positive experience using them before pulling the trigger on this one.

Will try seek and try out the CATs 6/7 recommendations too for comparison.

Bvdiman, pls let me know the result of AIM LAN cable as an HS LINK too.
I guess silver wire in Diamond will have strong impact to tonality, just like
Their WEL cables do.

I have just ordered AIM AVC LS15 , Laser based HDMI cable too.

Toga

Hi Toga,
Bad news.. After the due diligence yesterday, just got an e-mail reply from Global.Rakuten this morning stating they are only selling to within Japan - so order cancelled.

Tried Amazon.jp as well, same thing. Other sites I visited have languages in Japan, and the translations don't help much either. Have e-mailed AIM direct too but no reply as yet.

If it is all that difficult, I'll probably be buying the AQ Diamond first.

Pls tell as to how you go about ordering your AIM cable? Thanks!

Bvdiman,

Where do you live?
I ordered product to shipped to a hotel in Tokyo. And I managed to have someone
Carry them back for me, that s how things work out for me.
Emailing in English to a company in Japan and you expect a long time for reply.
Then may be I will have to report back to you how AIM Lan cable sounds.
And waiting to hear your comment about AQ Diamond.

Toga

Toga
Indonesia, but am in Beverly Hills CA at the moment for a short visit.
I guess so, you need to be connected there locally. Do share your findings of the AIM Lan cable, if it's really that much better than the Acoustic Revive, I will arrange same.

Just ordered the AQ Diamond through Amazon, it will be delivered to me tomorrow (Friday). Will exchange notes with you when I get back next week. I have this feeling that the pure silver of Diamond will work well as HS-Link on the Accuphase combo - crossing fingers. Cheers!
