Fascinating videos with Roger Smith, Master Watchmaker

Okay, so true to my scientist nature, as I've been exploring buying my first mechanical luxury watch, I've also been researching watch repair and in particular, watch making.

We were all blown away by the amazing video of the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, truly extraordinary, well, here's another set of fascinating videos.

Meet Roger W Smith of RW Smith watches. Roger is carrying on the legacy of George Daniels, regarded as the world's greatest watchmaker for the last 250 years. George Daniels invented the first new escapement in 250 years, the coaxial escapement, which is now (after much influencing by George) being used by Omega in their coaxial chronometers: Coaxial escapement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The interesting thing about Roger is that he makes virtually everything, excepting the main spring, the balance spring, and the jewels, for a watch by hand: not only movements, cases, hands, dials, but screws, plates, levers, cams, etc.

Smith was commissioned by Prime Minister David Cameron to make a GREAT Britain watch for the international GREAT campaign.
