Jefferson Airplane Guitarist Paul Kantner Dead at 74
Sadly we've lost another great artist - a cornerstone of the San Francisco psychedelic scene. Thank you for the great times... R.I.P.

Saw the band play many times. Lots of fun times.
RIP Paul.

Very sad indeed. To this day I am still moved by his "Blows Against The Empire", from where my tag line "have you seen the stars tonight" comes. He was a real poet.

Saw them 3 times. Oddly enough they were one of the few bands I saw at Woodstock, that I had any knowledge of prior. White Rabbit and Somebody to Love were on most juke boxes in the clubs and bars that we hung out in and they got played a lot. Saw them in Philly in 71 and as Jefferson Starship in Philly in 74. I was infatuated with Grace so I thought Paul was one lucky guy.

This is the part of getting older that I really don't enjoy. My rock and roll idols are starting to drop much more frequently. Growing up in the SF Bay Area, Paul was one of our musical cornerstones. He also dated a close family friend for a while in the mid to late 80's, which was very cool for all of us.
Rest in peace Paul...

I remember the days when I'd grab an order of fish and chips wrapped in newspaper from a place on Height Street, then wander down Height into Golden Gate Park to watch and hear Jefferson Airplane perform a free afternoon concert in the park. I also remember seeing Canned Heat, The Youngbloods, and Moby Grape play concerts in Golden Gate Park. The late 60's and early 70's in San Francisco were fun and memorable, if not a bit fuzzy, times.

Prolly in the middle 80's I was in Oakland at Emil Villa Hickory Pit on a Saturday afternoon . I was sitting at the counter and was ordering fresh strawberry pie. My waitress suggested fresh peach. The gent to my right said fresh peach was the best. We talked about the food and pie between bites. When he got up to pay I'm thinking I know this guy. As I walked out the door he was driving off in a Porsche with "STARSHIP" plates. Wow I just had lunch with Paul Kantner. I went back in and talked to waitress who didn't know who he was , but knew him as a regular customer.

Very sad I was a big fan in my youth, haven't listened to Jefferson Airplane in a while but still listen to Hot Tuna Burgers regularly. Paul seemed like a personable regular kind of guy and an amazing talent. RIP Paul and thanx for all the great music.
