There's a good discussion of mass and compliance here:

Thanks. I was coming back to update my post a bit more. The following link makes the calculation fool proof.

https://www.vinylengine.com/cartridg...&submit=Submit

In my setup, my E-Flat arm comes stock with an effective mass of 12.5 grams. (it can be increased to 19.5 by changing the metal blank to the larger 4mm blank)

My Denon DL-304 weighs in at 7 grams and has a compliance of 14x10(negative 6) if you factor in approximately 1 gram of mounting hardware that ups the weight to 8 grams. It gives me a resonance freq. of 9hz which is really good.

The result is the DL-304 is a great match for the medium mass E-Flat tonearm.

Wow! Outstanding! Very much appreciated!

The caveat with that chart is that is works only if the compliance number is calculated at 10hz. Most Japanese compliance numbers are calculated at 100hz, so the chart does not give you an accurate reading.

I found this link: http://www.resfreq.com/resonancecalculator.html

For example, I'm looking at the Audio Technica ART9 cartridge. The weight of the cart is listed at 8.5 grams with a compliance number of 18 (100hz). So, adding the effective mass of my tonearm (12.5) to the 8.5 gram weight of the ART9 and factoring in another 1 gram (approximate) for mounting screws and nuts, I have a total mass (arm + cart + mount) of 22 grams. When I plug that number in plus the 18 compliance number, I get resonance of 7.998. Now, if I'm reading this right (am I'm not sure I am) then I take the product 7.998 and multiply that by 1.5 then the result, subtract 2. What I get is this: (7.998 x 1.5)-2 = 9.997. So, am I correct in surmising that if calculated at 10hz rather than 100hz, the resonance frequency would have come out at 9.997? If true, this would suggest the AT ART9 is a perfect match for a medium mass tonearm.

Can any smart math types/engineers confirm my thinking or point out where/how it is defective.

Thanks.

I'm trying to figure out the correct conversion. Some of the stuff I've seen from a google search seems to be all over the map.

Another vote for the Cadenza Bronze. For me it has a perfect combination of warmth and detail extraction.

Paul - Congrats on making a fine choice which should be an excellent match with your table/arm combo as well as your phono stage and electronics! Enjoy the tunes and please let us know how it works out. The cartridge should sound good right off the bat but will continue to improve for about the first fifty hours of use as it breaks in.

I'm looking for a phono cartridge for the McIntosh C52, which has 60db gain. Turtable will be Tranrotor Rondino and SME V with VdH MCS-150. Phono cartridge price range is about Clearaudio da Vinci v2 or less. What kind of options do I have?

I have already got good offer from Lyra Kleos. How well Lyra Kleos will work with my system?
