We went with Quartz and love it - although it is usually referred to as being non-porous that isn’t quite right as there are certain things we still need to be mindful of and clean up within reasonable time of a spill to make it easier (e.g. tea and red wine stains). My understanding is that it is less porous than granite so easier to maintain in this regard...

There are some amazing custom concrete options. Local bar here has one installed, they stain/paint/mix whatever into it to get similar look as marble or granite for raw finishes or epoxies over the top for metal like finishes. In raw form, there are similar properties to granite for heat/abuse. Since it’s poured and formed onsite, they can do seamless and unique shapes and inserts not easily done with naturally cut stones. Plus, if chipped/cracked, it’s easy to repair.

Concrete is durable for sure, but needs constant care and sealing. Even if sealed regularly, it still stains a lot easier than granite or quartz. The other consideration is it’s more of an industrial look compared to the elegance of quartz and granite. However, that may be a desired look.

In my opinion, concrete looks absolutely awesome for commercial or even residential bar tops, but for me, granite in the kitchen has an elegance not matched by concrete.

Careful how dark you get. We selected a darker green/black flecks and, even in our well lit/windowed kitchen often think we should have gone with something lighter. Especially when the sun is in our face things can 'disappear' on the dark counter top under the shelves.
