I totally agree with you

Even the 099 is connected to PC by usb,it also perform quite good as Burmester house sound.

Do anyone know more details about the usb input?

I like both, this and the 2301's. And I'm the labeled with the problem. Just keep us in the loop. I make no judgements.

I see a upgrade of 099:

099 Integration of the USB Module (Class 1: 48kHz/16Bit & Class 2: 192kHz/24Bit)

Burmester Audio Systeme GmbH | Update your device

Do anyone know how to upgrade?

I think it is no need to send back to dealer for complete this

Has anyone compared the preamp quality of the 099 with the 035? They're priced around the same with the pro's of the 099 being a newer design and the DAC of course. The 035 gives a phono option, has the X-Amp stages and has a HT bypass. Looking at pairing with a 956mk2.

Welcome, J22.

I think the 099 is a better DAC, and the 035 is a better preamp. Either will work very well with the 956Mk2 - which is an excellent power amp. It will depend on how you are configuring your system as to which would be the most appropriate.

For me, and this is a personal decision, I feel Burmester are better at making preamps than DACs, and so I would get the 035 and run a separate DAC.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice!

I do think too that the 035 is the correct choice given I appreciate the HT bypass function, and am already using a decent DAC. My main hesitation is that it's an older design - the internal shots of the 035 look pretty dated next to the rest of the line that was updated in '07, '08, '09.

The other option I'm also considering is to get the 956 first and use it with something I already have while I save for the 088!

I think the later designs reflect the approach of adding different modules, whilst the 035 is a more classic layout. If anything, a purer layout. I would not let that worry you.

I think the 088, which I have, is optimised for the 911. And I'm not sure how much "more" you would get from that with the 956 compared to the 035 - as these two are designed in partnership. The 088 is very demanding of power supplies, cables, etc.

But I can say the 956 is much less fickle than the 911 when it comes to pairing with a source, so it may work quite well with whatever you have as an interim step. But I think you would like it best with the 035.
