MY MW-1 Cyclone arrived a couple days ago on 7/2. Serial# < 50 so they are shipping. Built like a tank.

For me the MW-1 replaces a 15 or 20 year old record doctor which died within a week of my Classic 3 arriving. My plan was to save for a new RCM and test a KLA unit or similar in a year or so after the ultrasonic units had a little more time in the market and maybe come down a bit in price with more options. So what about the Cyclone.....

The all metal case give the Cyclone a no nonsense industrial solid feel. The vacuum pump is reasonably quiet and probably cleans about as well as the inherent limits of vacuum cleaning technology allows. Records shine after they are cleaned and surface noise on many are noticeably reduced. Usability is refined from VPI's long experience in RCM design with all switches, platter, and vacuum arm easy to operate. The unit looks easy to repair/maintain and it is backed by VPI. So, FWIW I think for those in need of a new RCM the vacuum style Cyclone is well positioned in the market. Well worth the extra $$$ over the std 16.5 without creeping up on $$$s where one might consider stretching the budget and go for a current ultrasonic unit.
