I did not know Keith of auditorium a23 made connectors like this. That is a fantastic option. Keith makes world class products so I am sure they will be perfect.

Have a call in to my Shindo dealer about the adaptors, and he is looking in to them Monday. JayBass- I went on ebay and searched altec auto former. I didn't see anything. I would like to explore them, along with the german crossover you did from Germany. Obviously my first step is just to get the adaptors and listen, but I would like to know more.

Werner Jagusch sells crossovers on Ebay.
He uses the name Mast Mutter., so look under that seller name. He makes crossovers for a lot of the old Altec Speakers. He used to be a Shindo dealer in Germany and I know he personally recommends Shindo amps to match up with Valencias. Have fun. |

A23 adapters ordered through my Shindo dealer. Has anybody experimented with getting them off the ground, just a 1 foot or so…?

Don - Are you asking about elevating your Valencias because of aesthetics, or are you thinking that their somewhat short stature will result in a soundstage lacking height? Aesthetics aside, when I heard them "back in the day" (with top of the line Marantz electronics) and again about 5 years ago (Shindo V-R and Cortese), the sound stage was not lacking in any way. They were simply phenomenal!
It must be killing you to have to wait so long to finally hear your new speakers, but when that day arrives, you will be thrilled! I wish to God I had purchased the pristine pair I heard 5 years ago. Shame on me. Hang in there! Best Regards, Steven |

Hi Steven,
Not about the looks, but more the latter. I'm sure I will listen, and see how they sound before having a stand made. Was just curious if anyone had done so. I am thinking about grabbing a decent 70's receiver on the cheap for now. This way I can just use my Radio Shack bare speaker wire, and get these babies cooking. If not, I may just wait it out. Cheers -Don |

Don't bother with stands. Altecs engineers designed the cabinet the way they did for a reason. You can enjoy some benefit by putting them on pieces of wood just to decouple them from the floor, but other than that, it is more important, in my opinion, that you sit far enough away from them in order for the sound to gel and not sound like it is alternately coming out of one speaker or the other. These are not the best near field monitors. They are meant for 8-16 feet distance between you and them. Get ten or twelve feet away and you will not be thinking about toe in, raising them off the floor or much of anything else except listening.
