You already know that I like to dabble (more than dabble really) with Paint Shop Pro 9, so here is an attempt to post a BEFORE and AFTER photo of the 2205 power meter. You may know that I just completed a one month overhaul of the 2205.

Before

After

It wasn't easy to control the conditions where the photos were taken, or even how much post processing to apply. I think the lighting is more uniform now. A textured diffuser sheet (available at Home Dep'age) could have been added in place of the stock translucent plexi which would have been an improvement.

I'll have to remove the front panel once again, since MORE crumbs from deteriorating foam on the back-side of the panel glass are visible in front of the meters (not shown above, as the photo was retouched.) All it needs now are new power supply caps and a new front glass.

Default MC352.....ahhhh blue!!!

This a photo of my MC352 with new led lighting package. Very easy install, now all the meters match!!! Funny side story when I went to move the amp to install the led package. It's seem that the amp are a tad bit heavy!!! Well installing the new glass front was also very easy to install.

Nice pic. Handling your amp is a whole consideration in itself before starting any work on the unit. For instance, belt buckles and even shirt buttons are a no-no. Many amps are damaged by mis-handling (not to mention idiotic shipping.) Years ago I built service fixtures for my units out of laminated counter-top material which sit in front of the rack at just the right height.

Another consideration is your BENCH MAT. I believe it must be swept of any metal or debris each day, etc.

Were you able to lift the MC 352 ok? which weights ~105 lbs? I think the MC 2205 at 85 lbs is about as much as one person can lift and carry.

There's something about the old meters with their dual scale (watts / dB) and tic marks at -3, -3, -4 dB that's appealing. These meters seem a bit flaky. Another test and adjustment needed is a good WATTS / dB calibration and thorough meter range verification. I'll need some BIG Ohmite 8 ohm loads, possibly with cooling fans for that task.

I cannot measure distortion, but can view the waveform peaks on an O-scope and measure voltage across the 8-ohm loads.

Let's say as I saw my beloved plummet to the floor. I raced to the nearest phone booth, changed into HOLY %@!(&(. Digging deep into my resolve "don't have the money to fix" I was able to save MC352 from appending doom, suffering a minor spiderweb along entire glass face.

Gregory.....nice pics and I really enjoyed your restoration project

blacsno...ouch with the spider-web Glad you were able to change the glass and it looks really nice now

David.....My 402 is sounding really sweet now, can't say for sure it was a night and day difference.....but it does sound a bit "blacker" at low volumes. I'm glad I made this move (thanks to Dan's feedback)......It's a keeper

Now, if only Mac would make a single-chassis dual-mono ss pre.....may have to step outside the Mac line ???
