Where has VintageTube (Bob) gone? He would have valuable information for this thread.

Hi n brio,
As far as I understand the Amperex actually built the Phillips tubes and are the same and a way to get vintage Bugle Boys at a lower cost. I've heard Telefunken, Mullard and Amperex referred to as the European sisters. While in like the Tele's and Mullards I've simply never cared for the Amperex. I own the touted early 60's Amperex Mediacal Grades, 1959 Halo Getter Bugle Boys and the rarer earlier long plates with square or D getter. In my room in my rig they are highly dynamic and energetic yet have a pinched and confused sound stage with very little spacing and air between the various sonic images. A complete deal killer for me.
If you haven't read this review you should...it's outstanding although I can't agree with the blanket assessment and indictment of all 12AX7's his description of the 5751's is spot on:
https://www.audioasylum.com/scripts/...oes-tubes.html
In the last 2 weeks I purchased a quad of Sylvania 5751WA TM BP's on ebay for approx $300.00 they are very good. These are my go to tubes....very focused, very balanced top to bottom, very musical and in my rig, the most 3D holographic tubes I've run. These cost 30% of my second favorite, the Mullard Master Series 10M's.
Another great source for suggestions and information as well as purchasing tubes is Brent Jesse....I noticed he has Sylvania TM BP military versions available:
http://www.audiotubes.com/ I use his website as a reference on a regular basis.
I live in the Phoenix area and have purchased dozens of tubes from a local dealer named Dave and calls himself Arizona Tube supply....have fun. Your pre amp is extremely tube rolling friendly and will respond well to all the different variations.
Have fun!

I have read it's an issue but I've run the same set for over a year. That said I have stockpiled about a dozen well matched tubes. Another tube I really like but forgot to mention are the Mazda military silver plates as well as the earlier Mazda long grey plates.....outstanding tubes. Brent Jesse seems to have a good supply. Enjoy!

Yes he does and probably the last of them ( chrome plate as described by upscale audio) in the world. They were rated the second best in a shootout of tons of tubes by VTV about ten years or so ago.

I think I have six matched quads of the silver/chrome plate and one of two favorite X7’s in my tube amps input/driver tubes.

If you want those I suggest buying while you can. Superb tubes.

I have now found this tubes here in sweden, Sylvania 5751WA whit CBS logo, triple mica, O-getter, grey plates from 1963 and Sylvania GB5751WA gold brand (pics under on gold brand) Is the gold brand the right tube ? it looks like triple mica but is it gray or black plates?

Interesting....must be later versions...almost correct except all mine are square or D getters.....probably from the fifties, which are typically the ones everyone is looking for. 1963 would definitely be the gray plates. Looking at the picture it appears to be a gray plate. The hot gray plate versions are the triple mica Gold Pins....your picture is a steel pin....The TM Gray plate Gold pin are considered one of the holy grail tubes....I have a quad and while they are very good, IMO the Black Plates are better. Something refined about them. Below is a link that clearly shows the TB BP Gold Brand (or JHS) square tilted getter. This is the type.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Matched-Pai...IAAOSwaXVcwf67

As you are located in Sweden, the Telefunken smooth plates are really very good. Especially if you can find the red tip medical versions.
Also, not to confuse the issue, I had to recently change tubes in order to put some hours on a new ethernet cable I had purchased....I hate doing that with rare tubes in the C500. Anyway I had purchased some 1974 Original TESLA E83CC (ECC83 / 12AX7A / ECC803S) tubes....these were made with the original Telefunken ECC803S (frame grid design) tooling...long story short, I had originally run them for about 50 hours and was not very impressed, however, this time I put them in the circuit and let them run for 100 hours straight and I have been shocked how they opened up and they sound absolutely gorgeous...a little more punch and bass and just as focused and refined as the Sylvanias with the same kind of crazy 3D sound stage. I bought them from - tubes-store.com. I believe they are in the Ukraine. I checked all their reviews and they get high marks. They did a great job with follow up etc and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. There are counterfeit Tesla's out there but if you google this model there is plenty of info on line about what to look for and what to avoid. Maybe easier for you to find from Sweden. Worth the adventure

I did find 4 matched philips/amperex holland made fom 1963 - 1969 here in sweden to a really good price so i brought them and just put them in.

But when i start the pre amp (C500T) the tubes flashes like a normal light bulb for 1 sec and then turn green. is this normal? It did not do this with the gold lions.
Everyting else is normal.
