Default Amati Futura: WAF

I'm in the process of researching a home system and I'll frequently show the wife pictures of various speakers and ask if she likes them. I'll admit, I do it mostly to annoy her as she does not share my enthusiasm for this purchase

Out of the blue the other day, she brought me one of my magazines and said, "I like these speakers. You should get these." I looked and they were a picture of SF Amati Futuras.

Now, when it comes to this type of thing, the wife is a little naive. She couldn't fathom the cost of some of this gear but... never one to miss an opportunity I said, "Well, those are ~$36k but if you're telling me you want them I'll find a way to make that happen." Heh.

Futuras are stunning but a bit (ok, way) outside of my speaker budget.

Like many wives, mine is quite similar when it comes to "The Boxes" as she calls them.

She does however find the SF's to be most pleasing. Let's hope that continues when she see's Aida for the first time.

Along those lines, there was a very interested woman at one of our Florida Aida presentations. Afterward she walked up to the Diva (she could easily afford her) and waxed poetic about many of her features. Suddenly the woman said "I would never have THAT in my room though." I asked why she wouldn't want the speaker she seemed to love so a moment before. She replied "The speaker I will have, just not that thing!" pointing to the Boulder 2060. Apparently it was too big for her room while Aida was not. Go figure.

If you don't mind second hand, there are Amati Anniversario on A'gon from time to time. ~15K.

When I upgraded from Cremona Auditor M to Guarneri Evolution my wife told me she prefers the Cremona look!

Man are from Mars - Women are from Venice

Don't try too hard...

Btw, during a recent party I have a sound engineer came for an audition and he was blown away with the sound quality compared to my previous setup - THAT to me is a more satisfying opinion especially from a neutral specialist.

My wife was very pleased when she saw the futuras in the leaving room. I had graffiti cremonas before. She said: these are much nicer!!!
I gave up asking for advice or showing pictures before buying, she never likes any picture i show anyway. So I just buy and hope for the best. :-) If I buy after she said she didn't like can be worse than buying and then she does not like. Then I say: I thought you were going to like it....

A couple of month ago I had a good deal on a TD, showed her the picture and her words were literally: "Gross". I bought it anyway!!
One day I come to her and said: "Honey pls go to the living room and check out the TD I bought for the family!" She gave the look and went there. I was already preparing for the fight when she saw the gross TD. She comes back smiling and saying: "That is what I call a beautifull TD, not that horrible thing you showed me in the picture the other day!!!" never told her it was the same....

It really is amazing how we men, while not totally overlooking style, seem more interested in performance and that women are the other way around.

I had a similar experience recently as well. I have been researching some monitor speakers and showed my choices to my wife. The Harbeths were too "boxy" looking. The Sonus Fabers, which I thought she would really like, were "just okay." The Wilson Duettes, which I didn't think she would like at all, were the overall favorite...until I told her that I would need to increase my budget for them!

That's funny, my wife was the complete opposite based on pictures. After I told her what the Futuras cost I showed her the Cremona M because they are well within the budget. She thought they were, meh. She likes the red wood and chrome on the Futuras.

I also showed her Guarneri Evolutions because they have a similar look to the Futuras and are much closer to the budget. She liked them but thought it was a preposterous amount to spend on speakers. Heh, I can't disagree with her but that wouldn't stop me
