Default TIVO Roamio

I do not know how many TIVO users there are out there, but I have been a fan since day one and have owned every new generational unit they have produced. They usually update and redesign their units every three years. I just received the newest unit, the TIVO Roamio and I can say this is the best and most significant model over model upgrade they have ever had. There are several enhancements, but the best ones for me are the built-in wireless (finally), more storage (up to 3TB), twice as fast interface processing, and RF remote vs. IF.

I'm a fan of the product but not a fan of the build quality. Every TiVo I've owned since series one has broke and required replacement.

My current series 4 TiVo premiere just broke last week. The digital tuners are fried.

:/

I love my Tivos (after having been in the STB industry). I've had several Series 3s and a couple Elite/XL4s. None have failed to date. I'm glad to hear the Roamio is the leap I had been hoping for - especially the faster UI and out of home streaming. I've already warned my wife to prepare for one to arrive at the house.

Of the six units I have owned, I have had trouble with just one. My series 3 unit was just out of warranty when the hard drive crashed and burned. I had lifetime suscription on this unit and did not want to lose it, so I sent it to a place in California called Weaknees. They replaced the drive at a very reasonable price and it has been going strong for the past five years.

Must be a California thing, all of my friends with Tivo have had similar experiences. I guess YMMV applies here

I am also a big fan of Tivo, to the extent that I left Directv when they dropped them (a Murdoch-era mistake for which they are still paying). I currently have the Series 3 and a couple of TivoHDs. I think the Roamio is a game-changer for Tivo in a good way. I am most looking forward to out-of-home streaming to iPad and buying Minis to replace my HDs and Verizon box.
