Default Shindo Cortese left channel drop out

I'm having a intermittent issue with my Cortese.

This morning the left channel on my Cortese started cutting in and out. Sometimes I would lose the channel completely. When I turned the amp off the sound would come back as the amp powered down. I would then immediately switch the amp on and the sound would return.

Just now the left channel started cutting in and out again. I again turned the amp off and back on and all is good again.

Any thoughts on what this might be or ways to try to isolate the problem by switching tubes, interconnects would be appreciated.

I will of course be calling my dealer tomorrow.

Try switching tubes? left to right. See if the same issue persists.

swap interconnects L-R too. most likely it will just migrate but still a good datapoint.

Try wiggling the IC connectors at the Cortese inputs and see if they cut in and out. Sometimes they get a bit worn and may need to be replaced.

I am sure your dealer will be able to assist you.

However, a few pointers:

-Are you using Auditorium 23 or Shindo interconnect between the preamp and amp? If not, your interconnects may be
the culprit, causing poor connection, due to 'stretching' the delicate connectors on the output side of the preamp or input side of amp.
-Do not swap the f2a tubes as they need to be re-biased if you do so.
-Do not wiggle connectors at the preamp output or amp input jacks. This will loosen/stretch the contacts over time.
-The only thing I recommend doing, at this point, is swapping the 6aw8a right<->left to see if the cutting out 'moves' to the other channel...and when doing so...
-Do not flip the amp off, then on again quickly,etc.. If shutting down the amp, wait 5+ minutes, then turn it back on again.

5 minutes ? Do you recommend this only for Shindo or for all tube amps ? That seems pretty long. Most makers recommend to wait 30 seconds or 1 minute when switching off a tube amp before switching it on again.

I am erring on the conservative side, perhaps, but it really is best for component longevity.

Wait a few minutes, like I mentioned in my last email....

You could also simply try removing and reseating the tube for the problem side. That simple task has resolved this type of problem for me in the past. As for turning off and on a tube-rectified amplifier, I have always been told to wait at least 5 minutes after turn-off before turning it back on. Better safe than sorry! Good luck!

I swapped out the 6aw8a right<->left and the issue has not reoccurred today.

Interesting- Do you have any extra 6aw8a's? If you do get extra's, I would suggest the same brand Shindo uses. They aren't expensive, from what I found. I was lucky enough to find a few extra for my DYQ's. Cheers -Don
