Default Bi-Amping 800D3

Hi I plan on using 4 monos with the B&W 800D3, please can you recommend which ones to go for? I am thinking of the AUDIOLAB 8300MB's but open to suggestions. Thanks for any input.

McIntosh and B&Ws play nicely together. They are thirsty speakers and like a lot of power. You’d have several choices especially if you go used.

Why? Why not just get 1 super amp?

I love to hear what everyone thinks about powering the 800D3 also.
In the near future I will be upgrading my 20yr old 801Ns with the new 800D3s.

I upgraded from N802s to 800D3. Bryston 7Bs were my favorite amps I used in the N802s. If I still had them I wouldn’t hesitate to use them on the 800s.

I have powered them off of Marantz PM11S3, PM10, MM8077 because it’s what I had at the time. I also tried McIntosh MC207 and now MC303 at the moment.

I am happy with the 303s, they will be moved to surround duty with the ultimate plan of getting MC monos.

I’m using MC1.2KW’s to power my 800D3’s - plenty of power which is what they need. I’d also consider Dags which I’ve heard with 800’s and also sound fantastic...

If it were me, I'd rather spend the money on a higher quality pair of monos, like Luxman M-900u's or D'agostino Momentum Monos.

I use Audio Research Ref160M monoblocks with my 800D3’s and love the combination.

Thanks I have been looking at 4x 400M Moon Audio Monos or Exposure 5010 Monos. I have used MC 501s and MC 275x2 in the past and they were not been quite what I was looking for in sound.

The B&W 800 D3 will instantly show you the quality (or lack of) of your power amps.
Biamping can be done by either two stereos or four monos.

The Moon Audio 400M has an s/n of only 106db@full power (which is fair; there are worse than that).
Im just biwiring with two Accuphase A-200 monos with an s/n of 126dB@full power.
The Accuphase has ten times less noise (!!!)than the Moon.
May be two real top quality monos with biwiring would be the better choice than four run of the mill monos.

Martin
