Default Noise Canceling headphones for travel ?

My son took my 3 year old pair with him to college and after looking at other options I ended up buying a new pair over the weekend . When I fly I find that when I wear the bose noise canceling headphones I feel better and can hear my music and movies with less distraction from the jet engine noise . They really work well to decrease the cabin noise . I have tried other brands but for $350 I have not found anything that works quite as well but I would like to hear about other options. I know this a consumer grade product but I have to say it works as advertised for airplane flights.

I travel quite a bit and tried a few other. The Bose worked the best.

Sennheiser PXC450. We travel with these! They are great. Not at all a Bose fan is what I am meant to say.

Those are Sennheiser PXC450s, which I own and like very much.

PXC450's here too, after both QC2's and QC3's, the Senn's just destroy everything else out there.

I'd like a little more bass response, but at 36000 feet, the most important thing is not hearing engine noise and screaming children. The 450's fulfill that task at the top of the tier.

+1. Plus they are very comfortable to wear and sound very natural.

The new PSBs are a little more expensive than the Senns, but I found them more comfortable and worth the upcharge. But like most things, that's a personal preference.

I just got back from a trip to Europe and brought the new Sennheiser MM 550-X's with me and they did a great job.

I have both the Sennheiser PXC 450and the Bose QC2s.

They each have their strengths and weaknesses sound wise. I find the PXC450s a little to bright or rather lacking in the bass department. They also limit volume (even if you use the volume control on the side of the headphones). But overall they do sound better than the QC2s. On the other hand the QC2s sound pretty good too considering what they are going to be used for.

You can use the PXC 450s as regular headphones unlike the Bose QC2s which you have to turn on whether you want noise cancelling or not.

I found that the QC2s are better at noise cancelling. When you turn them on you can really hear the change where as I found it harder to hear a difference with the PXC 450.

I could live with either of them although I tend to use the Bose QC2s more.
